March 25th - Palm Sunday of the Passion of The Lord
From Fr. Suresh
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24
Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11
Gospel: Mark 14:1 - 15:47
COMMEMORATION OF THE LORD’S ENTRANCE INTO JERUSALEM “Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and
bestowed on him the name which is above every name.” - Philippians 2:8-9
PALM SUNDAY... JOURNEY WITH JESUS TO THE FOOT OF THE CROSS Our humanity bleeds through today's Gospel passages in more ways than one. We see both elation and fall, hope in the
midst of the darker sides of our natures. If we allow it, these Gospels hold a mirror to our own fickle hearts. The
crowds cry "Hosanna" and the Apostles profess allegiance unto death. In a manner of days — even hours — Jesus is
betrayed, abandoned, denied, condemned, tortured, and executed. As God, he could have stopped this horrific narrative
from unfolding, but he doesn't. He allows free will to play itself out.
There are nearly two millennia between this spectacle and us. We can stand safely removed, if we choose. But Lent
invites us to return to this story. Lent invites us to find ourselves in the people we encounter there. Are we the repentant
woman at Bethany? Are we naysayers of such lavish piety? Have we acted in a way that betrays those we love or
denies what we know to be good and true? Have we fallen asleep in our faith? Have we unfairly accused others of a
crime or immorality we imagine, though perhaps they didn't commit? Do we help others carry their burdens? Do we
stand in solidarity with those who suffer? Do we care for the dying?
This week, take up today's Gospel again. Look carefully at the Passion narrative and sit with it in silence. Find yourself
in the story and ponder its meaning for your own life. Journey with Jesus to the foot of the Cross so that you too may
say, along with the faithful centurion, "truly this man was the Son of God!"

EXTRA LAND AT CHRIST THE REDEEMER!
Christ the Redeemer Church (West Bay) is celebrating 25 years this April! We are delighted to announce that we are
acquiring an additional 52,000 square feet of land next to the parking area at Christ the Redeemer, which will provide for
any future expansion. Our goal is to raise the $200,000 in funds over five months from April through August, 2018.
You can do support this effort by making a monthly pledge or a one time donation (forms are available this weekend). It
is hoped that every parishioner will donate a minimum of one day’s salary for this effort! We will also have monthly
second collections to support this project, beginning at all Masses on Easter Sunday. We sincerely thank you in advance
for your prayerful contributions. Please contact the Church Office if you have any questions.

We encounter Jesus this week in Jerusalem, a community he knew well. We prayerfully enter into our own communities

ST. IGNATIUS/DOROTHY RICE SCHOLARSHIP FUND —
NOW IN OUR 21ST YEAR ASSISTING FAMILIES WITH SCHOOL TUITION!
The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund assists families who are not able to afford the full tuition at
St. Ignatius School (which averages about $9500 per year). Each year we help to keep children in our school who other-
wise couldn’t afford a Catholic Education. Over the past 20 years we have assisted 175 children from 120 families!
The average child in this programme receives about $200-$300 per month off the fees, paid by the scholarship fund
(directly to the school bursar), while the child’s family pays the rest.
In return for the help, the families actively contribute to the school and parish in a variety of ways (helping out with
fundraisers, chaperoning school trips, cleaning the grounds, assisting at sports days, serving on committees, etc.).
How you can help:
Donation envelopes are available at the front entrance of St. Ignatius Church or in the church office. Donations can
be dropped in the collection, sent in by mail or dropped off at the church office. If paying by cheque, please make
your donations payable to: ST. IGNATIUS, and in the memo, please indicate “Scholarship Fund”.
On-line transfers can be done through Butterfield Bank… contact May in the parish office for details.
Perhaps your company would like to assist with regular contributions OR a one-off donation?
Please consider the Scholarship Fund from time to time when doing your charitable work throughout the year!
Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the fund during recent months and during the past several years!
For further information, please contact Jeremy Rice in the Parish Office or via e-mail: [email protected].
DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
BEGINS GOOD FRIDAY 3:00 PM
We encourage all to pray the Novena to Divine Mercy which will begin at 3:00 pm at St. Ignatius
after the Good Friday Service. Each day of the Novena, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed
at 3:00 pm at St. Ignatius, in preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 8th, 2018.
Jesus asked St. Faustina to pray the Chaplets of Mercy and told her that “On each day of the novena
you will bring to My Heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each
day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls. By this novena I will grant
every possible grace to souls." (Diary 1209, 796)
Jesus also said to Sister Faustina: "Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will
receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if
there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My Infinite
Mercy. I desire that the whole world know My Infinite Mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those who trust
in My Mercy...." (Diary 687)
The Novena and Chaplet of Mercy are a source of grace. It’s a time of mercy for the whole world.
Further information and prayer leaflets are available at the Evangelization Committee’s display area.
