So Be Imitators of God, As Beloved Children,

and Live in Love

The call of Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians to “be imitators of God” gives us pause to ponder what we expect of God and what we should expect of ourselves and others. Don’t we expect God to be patient, compassionate, loving, merciful and wise? Don’t we trust that God will provide for our needs, bestow peace in our hearts and be a source of courage and strength? Saint Paul, then, urges that our lives reflect these virtues and more so that others will know that God is alive in the world. The context of this responsibility of faith is that we do it as beloved children of God, as beloved sisters and brothers. While family life is not always easy or without its challenges, the family is the most fundamental structure of love and support in our world. We seek to reflect the love of God as husbands and wives, parents and children, aunts and uncles. And as a family of faith this love must flow through us for others as we build up the Kingdom of God. May our efforts On Mission for The Church Alive! inspire us to live in love as a sisters and brothers in God our Father. Visit onmission-churchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

MISSION COOPERATION PLAN

Each parish is visited annually by a representative of a missionary group. This person speaks to parishioners about their work and requests both prayer and financial support for their ministry. The appeals are made on behalf of foreign mission works as well as missionary activity in this country. We welcome and support Rev. Honest Manishi, C.S.Sp, from the Diocese of Zanzibar on August 18 and 19. Thank you for your generosity.

EMBRACE THE SPIRIT OF AGING Look Back, Look Forward, Live in the Present

See how God’s Love was, is and will be present to You. Author of this book is Rev. Robert G. Duch! We have several copies for sale in the Rectory Office for $9.95. Stop by for your copy!

OUR FEAST DAY: AUGUST 15TH

Wednesday, August 15, is our FEAST DAY, since we come to honor Mary under the title of the St. Mary of the Assumption. This is the day we remember that the destiny of Mary was not to linger in this world after her death. Rather, she was “assumed into heaven” because she is the one who bore the Son of the Father. Since her entire being was filled with the Holy Spirit from the moment of her conception, she was destined never to experience decay, even after her death. Even though this event is not recorded in the Scriptures, it has been part of the tradition of the Church for many years. Our Parish Family celebrates it with honor and devotion!

FEAST DAY CELEBRATION: TUESDAY

We will celebrate our special Feast Day on Tuesday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. with an opening procession that includes our First Holy Communicants We welcome our First Holy Communicants of our 2018 Class, to come in your festive dress to honor Mary at our parish Feast Day celebration. SACRAMENTAL LIFE

BANNS OF MARRIAGE III. Laura Litwin (St. Mary) & Michael Hunter

FULL OF GRACE: THE STORY OF MARY, MOTHER OF JESUS This 80 minute movie is about Mary’s final days on earth as she reflects on her life, full of grace, with the Apostles gathered around her. We also see Peter, overwhelmed with the responsibilities of leading Christ’s Church and - with the help of Mary - rediscovering that he is not leading but rather he is following and walking in the light of God. The DVD movie will be presented on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Wednesday, August 15 at St. Joseph Parish, O’Hara Twp., beginning with Mass at 7:00 p.m. and then the movie with refreshments from 7:45 - 9:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend this FREE movie but registration is encouraged by calling Jack Shaw at 412-508-5383.

RELIGIOUS FORMATION

Faith Sharing for the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus says, “Everyone who LISTENS to my Father and learns from him comes to me.,,whoever BELIEVES has eternal life.” We can listen to the Father through the words that Jesus speaks in the gospels. If we let the words in our ears and sink into our hearts and BELIEVE, we already share in life that will last forever – ETERNAL. Sacraments: Grow In Faith Together Parents of, and children who just completed Grade 1, be especially attentive to what Jesus says in each Sunday gospel. He speaks to you and His message is for you and our time now. Grade 8 Youth and Parents/Guardians were given or sent important information about the journey of faith in anticipation for celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation in Springtime 2019. Be attentive to the dates when information is due to be returned to Saint Mary’s. Faith Formation families of children who attend public schools, use the Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families book pages 106-107. Suggested activity is to bake bread with your family. CATECHISTS and class aides will be needed when the September sessions resume.

Home with the Lord Remember Lord and welcome into your Kingdom those who have died and have gone before us marked in the sign of faith, especially Georgetta Griggs and Brian G. McGuire. Please remember to pray for the consolation of their loved ones.

A VOCATION VIEW Jesus continues to draw those who believe. Our world is hungry and thirsty for the Bread of Life. Will you share your faith? Consider ministry in the Church. (John 6:41-51)

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar

“Stop murmuring” Jesus told the disciples in today’s gospel. Complaining is a dead-end and constant complaining is nagging. We might feel better but others feel bitter. Silence or grumbling will not resolve the problem. Address differences honestly and respectfully. Do not make them personal attacks.

ALPHA – Coming Again this Fall

Alpha is a program that in a basic and non-judgmental way helps us explore our relationship with Jesus. Alpha is for everyone and anyone – not matter where you are on your spiritual journey.

Through a series of videos and small group discussions each participant discovers the foundation of their faith in a new and meaningful light. The videos and discussions help eve-ryone personalize the concepts and wrestle with what they really believe and feel. Alpha is a tool to reawaken our hearts and enliven our faith.

Over 400 people have participated in Alpha at St Mary’s. During each week, our small groups share a delicious meal, watch a video on some aspect of faith, and then discuss the video in small groups. There is no charge for the Alpha course.

Won’t you consider being a part of Alpha, or inviting a friend or family member to come with you who is looking for a way to ignite their faith?

FOOD, FELLOWSHIP, AND FAITH…. Beginning Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m.
