THIS IS A VERY BAD EXAMPLE! Childhood memories end up shaping our behaviour and developing our character as we grow up. Holding a baby in my arms last week, a small girl standing by asked me: Father how do children learn to talk? I answered her that children learn to talk because they have heard us speak.. A Language develops because someone has spoken it, the other person has listened and the listener tries to speak what he/she had heard. The action of speaking, the action of listening and the action of the listener to speak what he /she has heard brings about the development of a language. If a language is wrongly spoken, it will be wrongly learned! The other day I returned to my childhood memory as I recalled the days when I attend- ed Sunday school. My teacher taught me how to behave in church; how to stand, how to sit, the position of my hands and so on. I can see in my mind the good example she showed us by her own composure when we were at prayer. All of us have had people who have left lasting memory because of what they did or said. Persons who deal with children must act carefully and behave properly. I appreciate the work done by Sunday school teachers to teach the children how to pray and how to behave in church. However I whole heartedly denounce the actions of some parents who accompany their children to the Ladys chapel and instead of praying with the chil- dren some of these parents are fully engaged in conversations! While the leader of the children is helping them to say their prayers and to follow the Mass, some parents are so busy chatting, telling how their holiday went. What a despicable bad example they give to the children! What will the child think of the Mass or of prayer when instead of the parent being attentive to the homily or to the prayers of the Mass, she or he is busy talking, laughing etc. This behaviour is not right. Please note that I'm not talking about parents who do their best to pacify a child but about those who come to church thinking that the Ladys chapel is the best place to catch up on news. How will children value the Mass if they see parents who pay no attention to it? These days people are united in condemning child abuse but they look at it only from some particular angles physical or mental; we rarely hear of them speaking about the spiritual abuseof children. Jesus talked about spiritual abuse of children in terms of those who scandalize them, then he added it would be better to be drowned in the sea with a great millstone round his neckMatthew 18:1-10. A warning to us not damage the spiritual dispositions of the little children. I greatly thank the parents who bring the children to Sunday Mass and those who sit with them in the main body of the church leading them to a full appreciation of the Mass. What you do as an adult is copied by the young, that is why I encourage you to do the right thing before children because actions speak louder than wordsParish News letter– 30th Sunday in ordinary time- 29th Oct to 5th Nov 2017 A.J. Matters of Importance

Welcoming University students the Catholic Chaplain Fr. Jimmy Lutwama who is also our parish priest invites the parishioners of St. Marys and St. Osburg to recognise on this Sunday the presence of students who have joined our parishes during this period of study at Coventry University. A holy Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am today at St. Mary & Benedict Church followed with light refreshments in the parish hall for the stu-dents both new and old.

Xmas Bazaar raffle Tickets: : and the list of prizes are available at the back of Church for those who may wish to donate these. Please support our Parish by taking as many tickets as you can and sell them among your family and friends. We also need prizes for Tombola, wine bottles and good items for Bric a Brac. Please do not bring books or CDs . Thank you in anticipation.

Youth group at St. Mary’s : Are you interested in youth activities? Would you like your son or daughter to learn how to go about with peer pressure? Are you a universi-ty student burning with zeal for some pastoral services in the church? Are you inter-ested in making your presence felt in the Church as a young Christian? Well the parish youth leaders are inviting all young people for a meeting on Saturday 4th Nov at 6.00pm in the parish hall to plan the way forward.

Deceased Priests of the Coventry Deanery: Every year we celebrate Mass for all the deceased priests who have served in the Coventry parishes over the years, and each year we celebrate the Mass in a different parish. This year the Mass will be here in Sacred Heart at 7.00pm on Tuesday November 14th. All the Catholics of Coven-try are invited and there will be refreshments afterwards in the Hall. Please make a special effort to come.

Job Vacancy : The Catholic church of Birmingham wishes to appoint a Chief Operat-ing Officer working closely with Archbishop, Area Bishops and Vicar General. He will be responsible for all lay personnel, the financial and property resource management of the Arch Diocese. We are seeking a pragmatic and strategic leader, able to develop and implement effective strategies and policies. For further details visit www.gatenbysanderson.com/job/GSe36009 or contact Juliet Brown or Katy Gid-dens on 01132056089. details are on the notice board.

Masses for the Holy Souls: Last year the Masses which were requested for Holy Souls were sent to the missions in Cuba. This year the Masses which will be request-ed for Holy Souls will be sent to the priests establishing a new parish at Katovu along Mbarara Masaka Highway in Uganda. It is a very needy community with a strong Christian presence living in extreme poverty. I visited the priests during my recent holi-days, I mentioned that they were literally sleeping rough and I took a shower almost in the open (I waited for night fall). I’m sure they will join with their Christians to celebrate the Masses we shall present to God for our brothers and sisters who we pray for in November. Envelopes are available to write the names of those for whom you wish to pray during November and place the envelopes in the box front of the altar and they

will be remembered at Mass in the missions.

Sacrament of Confirmation: will be celebrated by Bishop William Kenney on Friday November 3rd 2017 at St. Marys church at 7:00pm. There are 22 children from the school and 15 adults from the parish. Please pray for children and the adult members of our parish as they prepare themselves to receive this Saving Sign of God.
