S a c r e d H e a r t , S u n d a y , December 9, 2:30 pm. The Greater Freeport Community Chorus presents a program of traditional and seasonal music. $10 for adults, under 18 free.

MUSIC FOR THE SEASON

Sacred Heart, Tuesday, December 11, 6:30 pm, Celebrate the hope, joy, and spirituality of the Advent season. The Festival of Lessons & Carols is an Advent tradition that dates back to the late 19th century. It is a blend of Scripture, prayers, and Christmas carols carefully chosen to tie into the themes of this sacred season. It is one of the rare times carols such as "Silent Night" and "O Come All Ye Faithful" are sung in church prior to Christmas Eve. The story of salvation will be told through nine Scripture readings or "lessons”. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a prayerful and joyous way to prepare for the celebration of Christmas. Don’t forget your cookies for the Holiday Cookie Swap!

THANK YOU FROM FR. DAN

I would like to thank Jane Abbot and her wonderful crew who put together a beautiful Parish Christmas Fair. A lot of hard work and dedication went into the event and it showed in the details. We do not have final numbers on the total raised, but I heard that they would like the funds to go toward updating the kitchen at Sacred Heart. This is a great idea. As you know, we do not budget fundraisers. Instead, I meet the team to decide how they would like to use the funds based on parish needs. This is done so that we can make these fundraisers more of a community event and a time of great fellowship. Thanks again, Jane. You really ministered in community building in the work

you and your team accomplished. GREAT JOB! —Fr. Daniel

A SUCCESSFUL FAIR!

Thank you to all of the volunteers that worked so hard to make our Christmas Fair a success. The camaraderie we have working together is a joy! Have a very Merry Christmas! —Jane Abbott

BUSINESS CORNER Come by St. Jude and check out the crisp, new sign up front and the new railings at the back entrance. We want to thank Bill Gifford for all the work he did to make the sign happen—coordinating with the town, working with the sign company, and of course, wielding his tools and paint brush. We want to thank Chip Carney for his work on the railings to make the entrance safer and more attractive. Thank you. -Melissa Bagdon, Parish Business Manager

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT Our liturgical season’s color is PURPLE.

WHAT KIND OF PROPHET AM I?

Scripture Background: A prophet is someone whom God chooses to speak truths from God. The Prophet of the Most High, John the Bap-tist, echoes the words of the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, by an-nouncing God's truth that someone very powerful is coming, someone we do not want to miss, someone who will purify and save us, Je-sus. As Isaiah told the Jewish captives in his own time, John tells us to prepare our hearts to be free and faithful as we follow a way which God has prepared for us.

WE READ THE GOSPEL: Luke 3:3-6 John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the desert, “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

WE PRAY: "Lord Jesus, open our eyes, our ears, our hearts and minds, to call your name and to recieve your guidance, your peace, and your love. We ask the holy saints and angels to pray for and with us to you, O Lord. We thank you for your prophets on earth. Help us to be prophets in our own way, to bring others closer to you".

WE TALK: What kind of prophet am I? To whom am I a prophet? What words or actions do I show as a prophet of God? Do I practice what I preach?

WE ACT: Our family will light the second candle of our Advent wreath this week during our meals together. We will pray for or help someone

in need. Whom will that be?

PARISH BIBLE RECOMMENDATIONS We have Bibles for all ages at our Bible display station at each church. Please place your cash or check in the provided envelope and place in the collection or give to your church pastoral Leader. Good will offerings also accepted.

ADVENT HOLY HOUR: COME, LET US ADORE HIM! Holy Martyrs, Sunday, December 9, 7:00 pm, Over 2000 years ago, God took on humble, human form and was born in a stable. Today, under an even more humble appearance, He is with us in the Blessed Sacrament. Join us

in adoration this Sunday at Holy Martyrs Church as Seminarian Joe Moreshead & Annie Smith lead Christmas hymns & reflections on the birth of Jesus 2000 years ago and His presence before us now in the Eucharist. Adoration begins at 7:00 pm and end by 8:15 pm.

MAKE TIME FOR ADVENT SMALL GROUPS! This season in our small groups, we will be exploring "Opening the Word" hosted on formed.org. Each group has guided journaling, short videos, and most importantly, prompted discussion questions. These methods of reflection will help you uncover the new hope, salvation, joy, and peace of the season! Sign up at pothe.org, or contact me to get started! —Annie, 553.7159, [email protected]
