Vocation Statue Program Beginning on Sunday, September 24, 2017, our Parish will be starting a new program called the “Vocation Statue Program.” This program encourages families to pray regularly for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Each week a family will receive the voca-tion statue at Mass and take it home with a promise to “pray for vocations” during the week. The family would place the statue in a prominent place in their home and would gather together each day to pray

around the statue, asking God to help raise awareness for vocations in our parish. Prayer booklets will be given to the family with a different prayer for each day. At the end of the week, the family would bring the statue back to church so the next family could take it home. We hope that through prayer, our parish may become a source of vocations to serve the diocese and the Church. If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office or come to the Sacristy after Mass to register.

An atheist was walking through the woods He said to himself, 'What majestic trees! 'What powerful rivers! 'What beautiful animals! Suddenly, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look … And saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him. He ran as fast as he could along the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the bear was closing on him .... He looked again, and the bear was even closer ... And then .... He tripped and fell. Rolling over to pick himself up, he found the bear was right on top of him … reaching towards him with its left paw ... And raising the right paw to strike ...At that instant the Atheist cried out, 'Oh my God!' Time Stopped ... The bear froze ... The forest was silent ... A bright light shone upon the man, and a voice came out of the sky ... "You deny my existence for all these years; you teach others I don't exist. And even credit creation to cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?" "Am I to count you as a believer?" The atheist looked directly into the light ... "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now ... but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?" ... A pause ... "Very well," said the voice ... The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed ... The bear dropped his right arm ... Brought both paws together ... Bowed his head & spoke... "Lord, bless this food, which I am about to receive. Amen."

Fire Upon the Earth a “New Evangelization” Course

Beginning in October, the Diocese of Metuchen will be offering a nine-month course to form people for the mission of evangelization. The course will be offered in two locales – the St. John Neumann Center in Piscataway and St. Joseph Church, Washington. An evangelistic retreat is incorporated into the content as well as different methods and practical tools available for use in the mission of evangelization. Fire Upon the Earth is open to anyone who wants to understand what evangelization is and can commit to a 3-hour class one a month from September/October through May/June. “For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” - RO-

MANS 14:8 This is the essence of stewardship – everything we have and every-thing we are is a gift from God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God has given us, espe-cially our very own lives. Pray to God, daily, and ask Him how He

wants you to use the gifts He has given you. __________________________________________________

Reflections Only in Christ do we find real love, and the fullness of life. And so I invite you today to look to Christ. “When you wonder about the mystery of yourself, look to Christ who gives you the meaning of life. When you wonder what it means to be a mature person, look to Christ who is the fullness of humanity. And when you wonder about your role in the future of the world and of the United States, look to Christ. Only in Christ will you fulfill your potential as an American citizen and as a citi-zen of the world community.” --Blessed Pope John Paul II __________________________________________________

Words of Wisdom "Sometimes, when an idea just won’t go away, you need to pay attention to how God is nudging you." --Anonymous __________________________________________________

Pray for ALL Hurricane Victims We ask that you kindly continue your prayers for ALL hurricane victims, even though the storms have passed, the after affects will be felt by these folks for years to come. They will not only need our financial help, but also prayers that they receive the grace and strength to sustain them through their hardships. ______________________________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young

American soldier embarks on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
