THANKS TO HIS EMINENCE TIMOTHY MICHAEL CARDINAL DOLAN FOR DONATING A CIBORIUM TO OUR CHURCH: This is to thank His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York for donating one of the ciboria that was used at the Mass celebrated at Madison Square Garden on Friday, September 25, 2015 during the visit of Pope Francis to our Church of St. Angela Merici Church. In addition to this gesture, as a token of our appreciation we pledge to continue praying for His Eminence. May the Good Shepherd continue to bless him always.

THANKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CONGRESS: This is to thank all those who organized a successful parish Congress which took place this past Sunday. May God continue to bless you for your dedication and diligence. Thanks also to all volunteers and all our patrons who participated in the event. May the compassionate and merciful Lord grant each one of us the grace we need to continue responding to His call with grace and hope. Amen.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: On Tuesday March 8, 2016, beginning from 7.30p.m. there will be a Parish Council meeting at the rectory basement.

FINANCE COMMITTEE: On Tuesday March 22, 2016, there will be a Finance Committee meeting at the rectory basement beginning from 7.30.m.

LENTEN FAST : During the Season of Lent, the Church urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily lives through performing acts of faith and abstinence.

FASTING: Requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Nor is there eating between meals. Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige through age 59. Those who are not specifically obliged to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able.

ABSTINENCE: Abstinence prohibits individuals from eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige throughout their lives. Those who are not specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are encouraged to join in the disciple of abstaining to the extent that they are able.

ALMSGIVING: Is a charitable action of giving help (money, food, clothes, household items etc to the needy and church. The needy include orphans, widows, the sick, elderly, immigrants… with the aim of alleviating their sufferings out of the love for Christ and neighbor. May God bless you for your thoughtfulness and generosity to the needy and the church.

ST. ANGELA MERICI CHURCH DAY OF RECONCILIATION: On Friday March 18, 2016 beginning from 7.00 p.m. we shall have our Parochial confessions in preparation of celebrating Easter.

NY ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN RECONCILIATION MONDAY: This year’s Lenten Reconciliation is scheduled to take place on Monday March 21, 2016 beginning from 3.00 p.m. till 9.00 p.m.

WAY OF THE CROSS. Every Thursday during Lent our way of the Cross will begin at 6.30p.m. in Spanish, and Friday the way of the Cross will begin at 6.30p.m. in English.

LENTEN MISSION IN ENGLISH: This year’s Lenten Mission is scheduled to take place on Tuesday March 15, 2016 beginning from 7.00p.m with a Mass. Come and experience the power of the word of God.

THE CARDINAL’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHP APPEAL 2016: Every year, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York Archdiocese asks parishioners to support him financially. ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT: Central to Pope Francis’s environmental encyclical, “Laudato Si”: is his call for a universal “culture of encounter,” or dialogue. Dialogue between science and religion, between the market economy and true human fulfillment, between the overdeveloped North and suffering communities in the South, is essential to “caring for our common home.” Let us pray for conversion to such a dialogical spirituality, even as we live it out by buying less and demanding limits to greenhouse gas emissions from our government.

A PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND AND ITALY: A pilgrimage to the holy land and Italy has been scheduled to take place from May 1st 2016 to May 14th 2016. In today's First Reading, God forgives "the reproach" of the generations who grumbled against Him after the Exodus. On the threshold of the promised land, Israel can with a clean heart celebrate the Passover, the feast of God's first-born son Reconciliation is also at the heart of the story Jesus tells in today's Gospel. The story of the prodigal son is the story of Israel and of the human race. But it is also the story of every believer. In Baptism, we're given a divine birthright, made "a new creation," as Paul puts it in today's Epistle. But when we sin, we're like the prodigal, quitting our Father's house, squandering our inheritance in trying to live without Him. Lost in sin, we cut ourselves off from the grace of son ship lavished upon us in Baptism. It is still possible for us to come to our senses, make our way back to the Father, as the prodigal does. But only He can remove the reproach, restore the divine son ship we have spurned. Only He can free us from the slavery to sin that causes us - like the prodigal - to see God not as our Father but as our master, One we serve

as slaves. God wants not slaves but children. Like the father in today's Gospel, He longs to call each of us "My son," to share His life with us, to tell us: "Everything I have is yours." The Father's words of longing and compassion still come to His prodigal children in the Sacrament of Penance. This is part of what Paul today calls "the ministry of reconciliation" entrusted by Jesus to the Apostles and the Church.

CAMPAÑA DEL CARDENAL 2016: Todos los años el cardenal Timothy Dolan pide a los feligreses en la Arquidiócesis de Nueva York apoyarlo financieramente a través de la campaña del cardenal . Santa Ángela Merici siempre ha respondido con generosidad y buena disposición, incluso sobrepasando la meta asignada. Este año la meta asignada es: $ 14,000.00. GRACIAS POR EL EXITOSO CONGRESO: Gracias a todos los que organizaron por el exitoso Congreso en nuestra parroquia que tuvo el pasado domingo. Que Dios siga bendiciendo por su dedicación y diligencia. Gracias también a todos los voluntarios y todos que participaron y nos ayudaron en el evento. Que el Señor compasivo y misericordioso conceda a cada uno de nosotros la gracia que necesitamos para seguir respondiendo a su llamado con gracia y esperanza. Amén.

ABSTINENCIA: Durante la Cuaresma, la abstinencia de carne los viernes es obligatoria en los Estados Unidos como en otras partes, y es pecado no observar esta disciplina sin una razón seria. La abstinencia debe ser observada por todos los católicos bautizados que han cumplido sus 14 años.

AYUNO: La ley del ayuno requiere que un católico de 18 años a 59 años, reducir la cantidad de alimentos ingeridos de lo normal durante la temporada de Cuaresma.

PENITENCIA: De acuerdo con el número 1249 del Canon de la Iglesia Católica, todos los fieles están obligados por ley divina, cada uno a su manera personal, a hacer penitencia.

DIAS Y HORAS DE PENITENCIA: De acuerdo con el número 1250 de la ley canónica de la Iglesia Católica, los días y horas de penitencia para la Iglesia universal, son todos los viernes de todo el año y la temporada de Cuaresma.

Dios a veces actúa dramáticamente para que sepamos su realidad y misericordia. Y para testimonio. Desde luego, testimonio al tiempo y lugar correcto. En la oración diaria hay que pedir a Dios el momento correcto. El testimonio puede ser sencillo, aun indirecto con mencionar algo interesante que has visto en ir a la misa. Puede sembrar una semilla o abrir una conversación. La otra persona puede sentirse perdido, aun muerto. Tu palabra puede ser como agua en el yermo. El próximo domingo hablaremos sobre misericordia - tener un corazón para el sufre. Muchos sufren porque no tienen a Dios. Pueden tener un buen trabajo, una casa linda, una señora bella - y todavía estar perdido. No tienen a Jesus. Tu puedes ayudar a esa persona encontrar la única relación que importa eternamente. Puedes sentirse confundido, pero sigues recordando, "Estaba perdido y estoy hallado - muerto y he vuelto a vivir." Ahora tenemos el segundo escrutinio. Tiene el mismo mensaje en forma diferente. Señor Jesucristo, tu has ensenado a ser misericordioso como el Padre del cielo, y nos has dicho que quien te ve, lo ve también a El. Muéstranos tu rostro y obtendremos la salvación.
