` eSt. Peter Roman Catholic Church Mission Statement
Our mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of God by living
the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Word, Sacrament, and
Service as taught by the Roman Catholic Church. St. Peter
Parish is a community of dedicated Catholics centered on
the Eucharist, which is the source and the summit of all that
we do and hope to become. Approved August 19, 2014
PARISH SACRAMENTS
SACRAMENT OF THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST
As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass is central to who we are and what we do. Regular Mass Times are listed on the front of the
bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass
times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To receive formation for First Holy Communion,
contact the Parish Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION Essential to the Christian Life, the
Sacrament of Confession is where we come into contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.
Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing
our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a personal relationship with Jesus. 30 minutes before
every Mass, the Sacrament of Confession is offered.
If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confession for the first time, contact the Parish Office, 896-
9408.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Through the waters of Baptism, the new
Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal Life. To have your infant baptized, please contact
the Parish Office at least 2-4 months prior to the
baby’s due date so that there is enough time to complete preparation for the Sacrament.
Parents should be registered,
participating members of the Parish Family. Proposed Sponsors (Godparents) should be
attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors
receive a Baptismal Packet which must be
completed and received before attendance at a
Baptismal instruction class is scheduled. A
Baptismal date is determined after all Church requirements are satisfied.
If you are a parent or an adult seeking the
Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE In the beginning, God created mankind
as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union
to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is
made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the
Church and the world. Couples discerning the vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the
Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for
their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior
to the desired wedding date.
SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL
ARRANGEMENTS The Church and her Sacraments accompany us at every moment of our life. When
we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we
receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,
to make an appointment.
Also, contact the church office before you contact anyone else in making funeral
arrangements. We are here to guide you through that
most difficult time.

FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR AUGUST WORSHIP: Celebrating this month, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15th), patroness of the Acadian
people, and the Queenship of Blessed Virgin Mary, may we recall with Thanksgiving our Lady's perfect example of Faith in God and her many protections and favors shown to us through her loving intercession. FAITH FORMATION: We pray for all parents at the start of a new year of Catechism instruction. As the first teachers of the Faith to their
children, may parents be guided and strengthened in word and deed in handing on the precious gift of our Catholic Faith to all our children. EVANGELIZATION: This month is dedicated to the Most Blessed Sacrament. May our hearts be transformed by the grace of Jesus'
Transfiguration through Adoration of the Most Holy Eucharist so that we may desire nothing else to Him. SOCIAL JUSTICE: Let us pray for an end to the violence against our fellow brothers and sisters of all races, creeds and walks of life. We
pray for the healing of communities and families who are grieving and divided. “May the God of peace arouse in all an authentic desire for dialogue and reconciliation. Violence cannot be overcome with violence. Violence is overcome with peace!” - Pope Francis BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: In gratitude for all those who have financially offered a little more to meet the needs of our Dioceses
Campaign and to enable us to perform the great work of repairing our facilities and building our new Chapel.

Novena Prayer for the
SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY August 7 to August 15
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Almighty and eternal God, You took the holy Virgin up into the kingdom of heaven after she had heard the Word of God and kept it. We ask You to make us, Your servants, always intent on the things that are above, so that we may come to share in her glory. We pray through Christ, our Lord. Amen
“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU”
JESUS TO ST. FAUSTINA: "My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one." (Diary 1541)

END OF LIFE MATTERS presented by REV. KEITH LABOVE
Whose life is it, anyway? Must we do everything?
Who decides? Does a living will help?
These and other questions will be discussed at a seminar to be offered by Fr. Keith LaBove, Pastor of St. Patrick Church and long-time hospital chaplain. We will explore basic church teaching on the stewardship of life and end of life care, look at some specific issues that arise, and talk about advanced directives. This one night session will be repeated at 4 locations: Tuesday, August 8 (6:00-7:30pm): Holy Ghost Church (Parish Hall), Opelousas; Wednesday, August 9 (6:00-7:30pm): Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (Parish Hall), New Iberia.

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD August 6th
God, our Father, in the transfigured glory of Christ Your Son, You strengthen our faith by confirming the witness of Your prophets and by showing to us the splendor of Your beloved Son. Help us to become heirs to the eternal life with Him, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
In the Transfiguration Christ enjoyed for a short while that glorified state which was to be permanently His after His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The splendor of His inward Divinity and of the Beatific Vision of His soul overflowed on His body, and permeated His garments so that Christ stood before Peter, James, and John in a snow-white brightness. The purpose of the Transfiguration was to encourage and strengthen the Apostles who were depressed by their Master's prediction of His own Passion and Death. The Apostles were made to understand that His redeeming work has two phases: The Cross, and glory—that we shall be glorified with Him only if we first suffer with Him.
— Rt. Rev. Msgr. Rudolph G. Bandas ~www.catholicculture.org
“At His Transfiguration, Christ showed His disciples the splendor of His beauty, to which He will shape and color those who are His: ‘He will reform our lowness configured to the body of His glory.’”
~St. Thomas Aquinas

PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS
Suddenly, there were two men talking with Him, Moses and Elijah. ~Lk 9:30
REFLECTION: Jesus was transfigured; the glory of His divinity shone through His humanity, which reminds us
that humanity always expresses the image of God. The Transfiguration was meant to remind the Apostles that death would not have the last word.
PRAYER: Jesus, may Your Transfiguration be a powerful reminder that You have brought about a new kingdom of life.
