When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and
said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down,
for today I must stay at your house.” Luke 19-5
Jesus saw goodness in Zacchaeus’ heart and called him
to be in his presence. Jesus has called all of us into his
presence and awaits our thankful responses.

Wisdom 11:22—12:2 • Psalm 145:1-2, 8-11, 13-14
2 Thessalonians 1:11—2:2 • Luke 19:1-10
Before the Lord the whole universe is as a grain
from a balance, or a drop of morning dew come
down upon the earth. But you have mercy on all.
Wisdom 11:22-23
I spent most of my childhood indoors watching MTV and
reading cheap paperbacks. It was southern Louisiana, and it
was melting hot. But what little time I spent outdoors stands
out sharply - the smell of the pine woods on a single night at
Girl Scout camp, the dappled light on Lake Pontchartrain after
Sunday Mass. Those moments left a lasting impression on a
heart that hungered for connection and transcendence.
When I had my own children, my long-preferred
forms of entertainment suddenly seemed dead. The ability to
make a new life awakened me to the ways in which all life
speaks of a creator who loves and sustains what is made.
When a fledgling bird fell from a nest in the eaves of my
porch, I wept. Every living thing seemed a grain in the
balance, tiny but significant because it bears the signature of
its maker, a love that is infinite in scope and minute in detail.

Collection for Military Services USA
Next weekend, our parish will accept offerings for the
Archdiocese for the Military Services - AMS. The
Archdiocese takes care of Catholics who are serving our
country in the military, including those stationed at Fort
Knox, and provides pastoral care for more than 1.8 million
men, women, and children. The Archdiocese for the Military
Services relies entirely on private giving. While the salaries
and retirement benefits of Catholic military chaplains are
paid by the U.S. Government, the AMS get no funding from
the government or military to support its many programs and
services. Please put your donation in an envelope marked
Military Services and drop in the Sunday collection.
I plan to lead a pilgrimage to Israel from March 27 to
April 5. I invite those who have never been to the Holy
Land to consider this opportunity. Our purpose is an
encounter with Christ as we travel to those historic
places where the “WORD was made flesh.” If you
want more information call me at 502-314-0910 within
the next two weeks. The group will be limited to fewer
than 27 pilgrims. ~ Blessings, Fr. Terry

MINISTERS NOVEMBER 2016
November Year of Mercy: Visit the Prisoner. During this year of Mercy, Pope Francis has established a jubilee for
prisoners this weekend. Visiting prisoners is a corporal work of mercy. Pope Francis is highlighting this work of mercy
while reminding prisoners of God’s compassion and mercy. He seeks to call attention to the conditions of the imprisoned.
In solidarity with Pope Francis, Archbishop Kurtz will visit a prison and celebrate Mass there. As we reach out to prison-
ers, Pope Francis reminds us: “Jesus comes to meet us, so that he can restore our dignity as children of God. He wants to
help us to set out again, to resume our journey, to recover our hope, to restore our faith and trust. He wants us to keep
walking along the paths of life, to realize that we have a mission, and that confinement is not the same thing as exclu-
sion. (Message to Prisoners at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, Philadelphia, September 27, 2015.)

"ROOM IN THE INN" OPEN HOUSE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3 - FROM 6:00 till 8:00 p.m.
Come see what this homeless program is all about! Refreshments will be served. You'll tour the facility St. Joseph's is using every
Tuesday night in the upstairs of the St. Vincent De Paul Building at 310 N 2nd St. Enter in the rear of the building. You'll learn the
rules set in place, see the nice cots the Abbey of Gethsemani donated funds to purchase, and learn about all the hard work that's gone
into preparing this space for such a worthwhile and necessary ministry. You'll watch a 6 minute video that the homeless see when they
come to the Intake Center explaining the general rules, which is ALSO located in the St. Joseph space. This means that the homeless
will be using our space every night of the week for check-in/sign-up, but every other night of the week except Tuesday, the host church
will be picking them up around 6 pm and take them to their churches for the night. This is a winter program from November 1 thru
March 31. This is the epitome of MERCY IN ACTION.
You'll also learn what areas still need your help. Volunteers are needed in several areas: to spend the night with the guests, to
bring warm meals and hopefully stay and fellowship (or you can just drop off dinner and a light breakfast if you prefer), to help clean
the area, and to take home bedding to wash.
Sheltering the homeless is part of our Catholic heritage. So many times in the Bible does God speak of helping those who are
less fortunate and how blessing them in turn blesses us.
Matthew 25:35 says, "For I was hungry and you gave me
something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to
drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in." We cannot
forget what Jesus spoke in Matthew 25:40, And the King will
answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the
least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” This ministry has
so many opportunities to change our lives and the lives of our
guests as we build relationships with them. We can’t solve the
problems of the homeless but we CAN provide them with the
basic necessities: food, shelter, and companionship. To
volunteer, call Kim Hovious at 348-3126, Pam Dickerson at 348
-5867, or Susan Hardin at St. Vincent De Paul 348-9752.
