Community Consideration
A Message from Ms Charman
Dear Parents and Carers,
In the spirit of kindness and for the happiness of all in our school community and vicinity, may I remind parents and
carers that the Cotelands Estate opposite our schools’ front gate is private property and the residents must be treated with the
utmost respect at all times. The public do not have right of way across these grounds as is clearly indicated on the many signs
posted throughout the estate.
Very recently, I have received serious complaints from Cotelands’ residents. They have informed me that there are some
non-residents who insist on walking across their private grounds in order to reach the Infant and Junior schools and some
children are pulling flowers from their private gardens. When the residents have rightfully addressed the issue with the adults
accompanying the children, they have reported verbal abuse from the adults.
I ask, as always, for public pathways only to be used to access our school and do not condone aggressive, rude or threatening
behaviour of any kind towards any member of our school community.
Further to the email sent out to all parents and carers on 7 June, I was greatly saddened to hear that one of our pupils was
bumped by a car whilst attempting to come to school. Luckily, the child was physically unharmed but of course, shaken as were
her parents. Please do not park across drives or close to junctions near the school, keep your driving speed to a minimum and
take every care when driving in the vicinity of the school.
Let us all continue to be a great example of the respectful behaviours which we expect from our children.
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Ms Charman
Holidays and Leave During Term Time
In the run up to the end of the school year, we always receive a higher than normal number of requests for
leave during term time. Whilst each case is considered on an individual basis, headteachers are only able
to authorise leave during term time in exceptional circumstances. Term dates for the year are
provided well in advance and are always available on our school website for your reference when booking
family holidays.
In some cases where leave requests have been declined, we have had several
parents express the opinion that ‘no work is completed in the final week of term’.
Please be reassured that the outstanding curriculum your child benefits from is
accessed right up to the very last day of each and every half term with the end of
the school year being no exception.
Thank you for your co-operation.
