Students of the Fortnight. One of our students, Indiana Robinson in Year 7 has previously shaved her hair raising an amazing $1,100 for World’s Greatest Shav Leukemia Foundation. What a beautiful, brave and selfless thing to do. Well done Indi, we are very proud of you.
Principal’s Message
It is with sadness but also some excitement that I compose my final Park Press. My retirement date from Albion Park High will be Friday 24 July (Friday of week 1 next term). Deputy Principal Christine Campbell will be relieving as principal for the remainder of the year, until a merit panel is formed. There are so very many people to thank. My eight year position at Albion Park High School has been the most wonderful way to conclude my career, and from the staff and the students to the community I have had nothing but support for all of the changes I have introduced. Nothing that we have done at Albion Park High School has been accidental; we created and stuck to a long-term plan of improvement that has worked exceptionally well. We have been a tight team and we have worked hard for your children. My Deputy Principals, Chris and Paul are two of the most talented leaders I have ever worked with and I leave with such confidence that the school is in extremely capable hands. My executive team are extraordinary, loyal and hard working – it is through them that change, and improvement occurs, my Director Raechel McCarthy often comments on the quality of leadership talent that is at Albion Park High School.

Albion Park High is my third principalship after “The Henry Lawson High” in Grenfell and “Moss Vale High” and it certainly is the position I have cherished most. I am extraordinarily proud of our school achievements over the past eight years; especially in relation to the wonderful shift in culture that makes up the identity of the school which is so often commented upon by parents. We have wonderful, strong students who can think for themselves and communicate with confidence, student leadership has blossomed in the past few years including the Creative and Performing Arts. I thank all of the staff who have enabled this to happen. One of the hallmarks of Albion Park High School is the strong stand we take on equity and this has only become stronger and stronger. Support students, students with significant needs including financial support, Aboriginal students and students who need extra welfare support, grow, develop and thrive in our environment; the significance of this and what it means to individual teenagers is what makes me most proud. The right of every student to have a high-quality education is my absolute passion. Thanks to the P & C, you have become friends to me, you are so kind in your support. I have no doubt that you will continue to support the next principal in their endeavours to continue to make the school the very best in the region. Once again thank you and farewell.
Ms S Clapham Principal
Immunisation: Year 10 Meningococcal clinic will be held on Monday 27 July (Term 3 Week 2). Consent cards for Year 10 will be given out at the start of term 3. Information from the Department of Health can be found in the attachments to this newsletter.
The next immunisation clinic for Year 7 dose 2 will be held on Friday 21 August, (Term 3 Week 5).
Visual Arts in the classroom
Year 7, have settled in nicely to what has been a very busy start to the year. They have been busy completing a series of small artworks based on the Elements of Art, where they experiment with a
range of new materials and techniques. The current results are amazing.
Year 8, have been completing some amazing drawings and paintings on the topic of Still Life, learning about how to identify areas of tonal comtrast and how to recreate them in their own work. The results are quite striking. Year 8 Extension Art are madly working on ceramic shipwrecked objects for a PBL project and have begun to refine some outstandingly detailed 3D sculptures.

Year 10, are experimenting with wire sculpture and looking at 3D negative space through the study of numerous artists. Year 9 are working on their pop art projects and the results show their ability to plan for large scale 3D sculpture and utilise both slab and hand building techniques. Year 11 and 12 have been working on their independent artworks, and while they were disappointed that our excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW to see the Art Express Exhibition was cancelled due to government restrictions on excursions, they have remained dedicated and positive, and have completed some beautiful work.
The Art Club has been working on large scale sealife sculptures for the Killalea Exhibition in coming months and have planned both ceramic and cane and paper sculptures for the exhibition.
