Chicken Soup Committee

Pat Kramer 303 471 [email protected] There was no need for the Chicken Soup committee to be enacted, outside of transportation of Sharon Tour-mey for a medical appointment. The CS Com. Is for members who are in need of meals, visits, transporta-tion, etc. There are thirty two of us who have volun-teered for this (and you know who you are…thank you!) and if you want to do so, please call me at 303-471-5406.

Get well cards were dispatched to: Louise Stitzer (who is at Advanced Health Care in Aurora for rehab) Sharon Tormey (who is doing fine after parathyroid surgery), and Eleanor Ames (who beat a “bug” and left for a trip to CA 2/5/11). Continue getting better and please work hard at staying well, ladies. We miss you! And sadly, a sympathy card was sent to Harriett Marchildon, for the loss of her husband. Our hearts are with you, Harriett….heal well.

March BiographyMarty Gathers

From dime store clerk to Director of a million dollar federal project. This is Marty Gathers. She was born a southern belle, but as a young girl was in a horrific car accident and was brought to Denver’s Childrens hospital acute care center. Fully recovered she garnered a degree from CU with 4 majors and in the true Scarlet O’Hara fashion, vowed “never to be poor!” She married a navy pilot and lived in Kansas until his health failed and returned to Denver where she nursed him back to health while working as a teacher-coun-selor. She became the first Driver-training instructor in metro-Denver. As a college counselor, she entered a doctoral program and became Director of a Career Counseling center, spending summers at Stanford and interning at UCLA. She became Director of Admissions at CU for 5 years when yet another car accident left her paralyzed on her left side. Two years later she established an Interior Design business and laid tile, hung wallpaper, uphol-stered and built furniture, designed and built houses with her left brain while running her busy social and civic interests with her right. This endeavor morphed into her becoming the director of admissions at the National Cooking Institute, while still designing and building homes. She’s traveled extensively on Euro-pean excursions as well as all our 50 states. After being widowed for 6 years, Marty married Bob whom she’d known for 35 years. They settled into his newly created home in Franktown where she’s been endlessly entertaining business associates, friends, and family. That brings us to the Marty we know and love as the bubbly gracious hostess of so many of our stellar PNC parties in their lovely home. She says her goal is “To share something of myself with everyone and when her talents are gone to vanish forever!” That may be, but there’s always tomorrow, Scarlet.
