At FUMC Owasso, we pray. We pray to lift up others for healing, we pray for salvation and we pray in the name of Jesus. We have experienced the power of prayer at work in our lives and the lives of others for whom we pray. You can send out a prayer request to our prayer team by emailing it to: [email protected]. If you would like to be added to this vital prayer ministry team, and to the prayer chain, send an email to [email protected].

Pray for a Powerful Revival! Prayer Ministry Information

Our revival with Bishop Hayes is just a few weeks away, on Sunday, March 9-11. Let us pray for God to send a powerful revival to our church and to each and every one of us; that God will use the revival to draw us closer to him and to reach new people for his kingdom. Ann Humes, Co-Chair of our Prayer Committee, has developed a prayer calendar for us to use wherever we do our daily devotions. The Prayer Committee asks us to pray in unity each day for the Revival, and to fast each Friday asking the Lord prepare us. They will be sponsoring a prayer vigil at the church March 7th from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Helping With The Shalom Meal The Shalom Meal (Shalom is the Hebrew word for “Peace”) and our weekly RENEW

activities for the spring semester of 2014 begin this week. The Shalom meal is served by various groups in our church on Wednesdays from 5:15pm until 6pm and provides an opportunity for families, music groups, or bible study groups to sit down and share a meal together before the activities of the evening get started.

Mendi Burns and Julia Griffin are the coordinators for the meal. They work with various groups and Sunday School Classes to make sure that the meals are covered and there are people to help serve while the meal is happening and then clean-up afterwards. Barb and Tem Horry keep track of the needed items and supplies in the kitchen and help the groups get their meals started. Our custodial staff; Sara & Zac Green and Janelle Roberts oversee the clean-up efforts as the meal is winding down. Please contact the church office right away if you’d like more information about getting involved. To help the Shalom Meal continue to operate and run smoothly we need to develop two other groups of people:

Kitchen Crew and Meal Preparers - We’d like to develop a few teams of 2-3 members each that would take charge of preparing the meals on Wednesday afternoons. These teams would then rotate and take turns with other teams. For example; if we had 4 or 5 teams - each team would only work one Wednesday a month. Clean Up Crew - This group of people will work with our custodial staff team to make sure that everything is cleaned up after the meal and that the kitchen is put back in order.

Our weekly RENEW activities begin February 2nd. Sunday: Winds of The Spirit 5pm, Study of Mark’s Gospel 6:30pm, Men’s Ensemble - The Gospel

Blues Rehearsal 7:30pm. Monday: Men’s Small Group. Tuesday: St. Andrew Men’s Group 2pm, Men’s Small Group 7:30pm, Women’s Ensemble - The Voices

of Hope Rehearsal 7pm. Wednesday: Women’s Bible Study@9:30am, The Shalom Meal @5:15pm, Children’s Choirs @ 5:45,

Littlest Lambs, Bible Study - What’s in the Bible and Bible Time Quiz Kids, Youth Bible Study, Youth Confirmation Class, Classes for Adults - Legacy Journey (began 1/15,) Healing Prayer (begins 2/5,) Adam Hamilton’s “Love to Stay” Study (beginning 2/12,) @ 6:15pm. Adult Praise Team Rehearsal @6:40pm, Youth Praise Band Rehearsal @7:40pm, Genesis Youth Bell Choir, Youth Ring of Fire Bell Choir, Arise & Shine Singers, Gloryland Gospel Choir, and Heavenbound Choir Rehearsal.

Thursday: Believer’s Bell Choir Rehearsal. A staffed nursery is provided for Wednesday activities (and for others as needed.)

Even though it's only January, it's already time to think about enrollment for the next 2 school years. If your child's name is already on our list for 2014-15 please call as soon as possible to schedule a parent information meeting and a classroom visit with your child. If your child's name is not yet on our list, there may be a chance there will be an opening. In determining your child's readiness for our preschool program, please see if he/she can willingly stop his own activity, put it away and join a teacher-directed activity, and that he/she can sit relatively quietly in a group of 18 children for 10-20 minutes. This is usually developmentally too much to expect from young 3 year olds

and has no correlation with their intelligence. Children must be at least 3 years old to attend, fully toilet trained and ready for an organized group experience. Children waiting to begin kindergarten at age 6, and those turning 5 in the fall should enroll in the M/W/F class. Three year olds are to enroll in the T/Th class. Four year olds may enroll in either class. If you are interested in the 2015-16 school year, please call to have your child's name put on that waiting list. Please call Carri Yount at Yellow Balloon Preschool at 272-1835 if you have any questions. Thank you.

Youth Rummage Sale FUMC Impact Youth will be hosting their annual Rummage Sale on Friday, February 28 and Saturday March 1. All proceeds will help fund activities like camp, youth mission trips, and general youth programming. We need your help to make it successful. We accept toys, books, clothing, household items, small appliances, jewelry, and tools, and larger items like bicycles, furniture, etc. They should be clean, and in good, working condition. You may drop off smaller items (household goods, toys, clothes, etc.) at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 1:00-5:00pm, Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 5:00-9:00pm or on Thursday, Feb. 27th from 9:00am –3:00pm. Larger items (furniture, large appliances, etc.) can be dropped off Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 5:00-9:00pm or Thursday, Feb. 27th from 9:00am –3:00pm. We can also arrange to pick up your donations if you can’t bring them to the church. Also, we would love for you to come find new treasures for your home. If you’d like first pick, church members can attend the Early Bird Sale Thursday evening, February 27th, from 6pm – 8pm. Admission to the Early Bird Sale is $2 at the door. Public shopping hours begin Friday, Feb. 28th from 7:00am - 3:00pm, and Saturday, March 1st from 7:00am - 12:00 noon. Thank you for your support of Impact Youth Ministries! Questions? Taud’s “Loose Ends”- Associate Pastor’s Column The beginning of a New Year seems to carry with it so much promise and hope. This year is no ex-ception. Both Pastor Chuck and I have just concluded our series of messages on Bishop Rueben Job’s “Three Simple Rules” which is a blueprint for a Wesleyan Way of Living. One of our church members as well as a candidate for ministry, John Miller also began a new Sunday School Class at 11:00 in rooms 127 & 129 using “Three Simple Rules” as its first class focus. All of this seems to have been very well received. I know I have appreciated the conversations that these messages, worship services, and new Sunday school class have started. When we decide to live out these beliefs that we should “Do No Harm” “Do Good” and “Stay in love with God,” we are simply setting the stage so that we can begin to transform our culture, our society, and indeed our very world. At the beginning of the year my area of focus in the church switched gears just a bit. Since mid-2009 I’ve been concentrating a good deal of my time on RENEW and our overall approach towards Chris-tian Education and discipleship. I’ve also been spending a lot of time on the maintenance of our building and property. I am moving back into the area of Evangelism and Outreach (which was my original focus when I was appointed here as the associate pastor.) I’m a big believer that one of the most important tasks we have as followers of Christ is to share our faith in order to grow the Kingdom of God. The mission of our church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The local church pro-vides the most significant arena for that to happen. We are always one generation away from extinction - let that sink in for just a moment. We must grow, and together we must produce fruit. I’m asking all of us to prayerfully consider ways that we can be more faithful to our calling and purpose. If you’d like to help, or if you have ideas about how we can grow, please speak to me or one of the members of our incredible evangelism and outreach team.

On Wednesday, February 12th (please note - that is one week after the start of the other RENEW

activities) we will begin a 7 week study of Rev. Adam Hamilton’s book, “Love To Stay: Sex, Grace, and Commitment.” That first night will be an introduction and orientation to the class and you can purchase your own hard copy of the book for $10. It’s also available through Cokesbury.com or Amazon in e-book form. Wednesday RENEW classes begin right after the Shalom Meal ends at 6:15pm. We’ll be in the UMC-12 movie theater up on the 2

nd floor and would love to see you there.

I have completed my last set of classes in my doctorate program (minus one wrap-up paper due in April.) I must complete a self-created elective class while I begin the work on my final project. My hope and plan is to complete both of those by the end of this year and then go before the oral committee for a “defense” of my final project in early spring of 2015. If that is successful, I will be able to graduate in May of 2015. It is a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Pastoral Leadership. I am in the preaching (homiletics) track and my final published project will be focusing on how churches use media in their worship and teaching set-tings. I can’t thank this church enough for your words of affirmation and support. So let me just say once again… “Thank You!!!” In HIS Grip <>< Taud Boatman

KAIROS is God’s Time

Karolann Whetsell will be participating in the March 6--9 Kairos weekend at Mabel Basset Correctional Center. Kairos offers many ways for those in the local church who would-never enter a prison to share God's love. Cookies are one vehicle of God's love that are allowed to be taken in to the prison. Karolann is looking for 30 people who will make 5 dozen cookies from the approved recipes. Yes, that's 150 dozen cookies from our church. God uses those cookies to open closed eyes! A question starts to form in the heart--where are these coming from? Why? The answer- -they come from God who loves you.

Yes, the family of God baked them, counted them, bagged them, and transported them. But they also prayed over them. Humble vessels filled with the love of Christ spilling His love all over the residents. She will also be collecting prayers for times on the prayer chain that covers the entire weekend in prayer. For more information, or to serve as God’s Hands and Feet through the baking of cookies, please contact Karolann. Call 918-978-3274 or email [email protected].

“Champion of Love” Community-Wide Cantata An Easter musical filled with time-honored gospel classics, built around the powerful ballad, “Champion of Love”. This will be an Easter experience full of timeless tunes that have inspired the church for decades. Included in the musical is the great song, “Midnight Cry”. Singers from all churches in the community are invited to share in the musical experience along with singers from our church. Everyone is invited to join with us. Rehearsals will start on Saturday, February 1 and will continue on Saturdays, from 9:00am – 10:30 am in FUMC Owasso’s Hogue Chapel. “Champion of Love” will be presented on GoodFriday, April 18, at 7:00 pm in the Worship Center of our church. Jean Grady will be directing the musical. If there are any questions, please call 918-371-1194 or contact Jean at [email protected]
