Greetings, We are excited about the upcoming year. We are implementing several new ideas, the first of which will be an Artists Reception at Mt Mancelo- na Ski Lodge . It will be held on May 15 from 7:00-9:00. Artists are invited to bring their work to show or sell. Members of the Parkside Arts Council will be there to meet the artists and purchase work. We will have wine, cheese and good company. We feel this will be a great way to introduce our members and hopefully it will open many doors. Many thanks to Joe Omness for hosting this affair at his awesome lodge. We are having a Spring Art Fair. Sev- eral artists have asked us to hold a spring event. It will be held in Bellaire on June 19. We will be continuing the Fall Show in Central Lake on Sept 11. The artists that apply to both shows will get an even better deal. Another idea that has come along is a Studio tour on July 18. Please think about offering your studio for this wonderful day. There are many more ideas in the works and we will keep you informed with e blasts. I would like to offer a warm welcome to our new board members Elly John- son and Eric Klinert. They are full of inspiring ideas and are a pleasure to have aboard. I would like to thank the board for electing me President. I am very hon- ored and will do my best. Art, Film, and PhilosophyIn Partnership with ISLAND

This is the third year of AFP, the sec-ond year of ISLAND and PAC partner-ing. This year’s Art, Film, Philosophy topics included presentations and discussions about local foods, com-munity resilience, permaculture, com-munity art projects, artist residency programs, water, and questioning our culture of consumerism.

It also featured local artists Elly John-son and Rachel Krino, writers Holly Wren Spaulding and Stephanie Mills, and community leader Bob Russell of the Neahtawanta Research and Edu-cation Center. Farmers Sharron and Paul May even played Rock and Roll! at their Permaculture for Farmers AFP. Attendance at these events ranged from 12-26 people, which took place at the Antrim County Building. A great chance to come together with members of the community to learn together and have discussions about art, film, and philosophy.

Land, Sky, and Water: Antrim County Through the Eyes of Its Artists

The Parkside Arts Council is ex-tending an open invitation to all of its members to submit one piece of art, visual or written (photography, painting, sculpture, craft, poetry or prose) that they feel best sums up their connection to, vision of, or feel-ings about the Antrim County area. These will be included in a planned full-color volume to be entitled Land, Sky, and Water: Antrim Coun-ty Through the Eyes of Its Artists. For information about submission deadline and requirements, please contact Eric Klinert at 231-676-0752 or [email protected].

Amy Perrier is a self-taught artist whose earliest memories are as a little girl watching her mother paint and later, attending painting classes with her. After completing high school and a year of college focusing on commercial art, Amy decided to trav-el, and preferred the freedom of artist workshops which allowed her to fo-cus more on her own interests rather than formal education in the arts.

Amy’s spirit of adventure took her to Tarpon Springs, Florida, where she set up her easel on the boat docks and painted the scenery to pay her rent. Amy eventually moved back to the north, continued to take work-shops, raised two sons, and worked

Now back in her home town of Bel-laire, Amy enjoys recycling old win-dows and turning them into pieces of art. Amy paints with acrylics on the backs in a reverse process, incorporat-ing her style of watercolor, as well as using a more thickly applied acrylic paint.

Amy participates in juried fine art shows through-out northern Michi-gan, and has won two first place awards for her work in creativity. She also displays her work at the Fresh Water Gallery in Boyne City, and at her home studio in Bellaire.
