WEEK 3 TERM 1 Commencing Monday 11th February 2019
Welcome back to school for what will be a very busy third week of the year. This week will see completion of our School Swimming Carnival (suspended due to lightning on Friday), the hosting of our annual Parent Information Sessions on Tuesday evening, the commencement of 2019 Band Auditions, the completion of 2019 Kindergarten Best Start Assessments, the roll out of the Bring Your Own Device Program to all Years 3-6 Classrooms and a number of sporting opportunities for our children. It was tremendous to see so many parents and carers in the school last week to engage in Term 1 Personalised Learning Plan Conferences. These conferences (which are held termly) are extremely valuable in setting learning and developmental goals for your children for the next ten school weeks and provide our teaching staff with invaluable information to best cater for the needs of your children. Kindergarten parents will have the opportunity to engage in Best Start Assessment Feedback Conferences later in the term. We have a huge week planned at Parkview Public School. Please consider the following as you plan your week: Parent Information Sessions Parent Information Sessions for all classes will be held this Tuesday, 12
th February. All interested parents and carers are
encouraged to attend the relevant sessions for your child’s classes. The times and venues for the meetings are outlined below: *KC, KE, KT: 5.30pm (KC Room) *1C, 1DG, 1HD, 2B, 2M: 6.15pm (IT Lab) *2/3H, 3H, 3/4Q, 4T: 7pm (Library) *4/5D, 5P, 6B, 6G: 7.45pm (IT Lab) Bring Your Own Device (Years 3-6) The use of personal electronic devices in all classrooms Years 3-6 commenced today (Monday, 11
th February).
Children will be consistently reminded of the appropriate use of these devices as well as the best practise in relation to the care of personal electronic devices at school. Parents and carers with any questions in relation to this program are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher. Kindergarten Best Start Assessments Kindergarten Best Start Assessments will be conducted this week. During these days, Kindergarten teachers will engage in one-on-one assessment of students in a non-threatening, fun environment. A relief teacher will cover Kindergarten classes during these times. The following days have been set aside for the respective classes for Best Start Assessments: KC: Monday, 11

Parents of students in Kindergarten will be invited to Best Start Feedback Interviews once these assessments are completed. Friday Assemblies The first of our Friday Assemblies will be conducted this week from 2.10pm in the Hall. Every week we will alternate between a K-2 and a 3-6 Assembly with awards, reports and a showcase class all a part of the entertainment. Each week in K-6 News in the newsletter notice will be provided of who the showcase class is. All interested community members are invited to come along and enjoy our weekly Friday Assemblies. We hope to see you there this week.
Band 2019 Expressions of interest for our 2019 Primary Band Program were called for last week and auditions for our will commence this week. Students who have an interest or skill with specific instruments or vocals are encouraged to engage with this process when it is announced. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school. Bright Beginnings-Play based Learning for 4 & 5 Year Olds Bright Beginnings is a play based learning program based on the Early Years Learning Framework and is delivered by an experienced Early Childhood Educator. We invite children who are 4 & 5 years old, who are or entering or considering entering primary school in 2020 to take part in this wonderful learning opportunity. Programs commenced today (Monday 4
th February) and will continue Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday throughout
school terms for the remainder of the year. At this stage we have limited vacancies on Fridays however Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are now fully subscribed and no vacancies exist. Please contact the school should you wish to include your child on Friday’s for this valuable opportunity. Winhangara Playgroup 0-5 Years All the fun of Winhangara Playgroup returns to Parkview Public School again this year, commencing on Thursday, 14
th February. Winhangara Playgroup offers free play based
learning for all children 0-5 years in a safe an inclusive environment coordinated by our experienced Early Childhood Trained Teacher. The Playgroup runs from 9.15am-10.45am on every Thursday of the school term and features a free healthy morning tea! Bring the kids and bring a friend. We’d love to see you! School Banking Information relating to the School Banking program will be shared with the community in coming days.

Uniform Shop The Uniform Shop will continue its normal opening times of Monday 9am – 10am and Thursday 2.10pm – 3.10pm. If you require access to the Uniform Shop outside of these times please contact the school to organise a mutually convenient time to access your uniform needs.

Golden Apple Docket Fundraiser Please keep your Golden Apple shopping dockets and place them in the container at the front office. This is a great way to raise funds for our students. Parkview PS 2019 Swimming Carnival-completion As most of the community is no doubt aware, our annual Swimming Carnival was suspended due to
lightning on Friday. As a result, the remaining events will be conducted tomorrow (Tuesday, 12th February) from 9.30am at the Leeton Pool. Only students who are entered in the competitive events that are yet to be completed will attend this event, while the remainder of children will be supervised at school. We expect normal classes will resume at 11.30am. The remaining events are as scheduled below:

Competing students will need to bring on the day suitable swimming attire, a hat, sunscreen, a towel, recess and lunch. There will be no canteen available on the day. Due to expected hot weather students will be required to wear a shirt at any time they are not in the water. It is highly recommended that all students bring plenty of water which they must consume at regular intervals across the day. Permission Notes Children who had permission for Friday’s Carnival will be considered able to attend the carnival unless parents contact the school to state otherwise. There will be no cost for transport for this event. Presentation of Ribbons Place getters from the entire carnival will be awarded ribbons at a special assembly to be held in the Hall for all students 8 years and older at 2.40m on Tuesday 12th February. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend this assembly.
LNPSSA Basketball Knockout
Parkview’s representative Basketball Teams will be contest the LNPSSA Basketball Knockout at the Narrandera Stadium this Friday. Our teams will play Small Schools and depending on the results of the
first game, will play either Narrandera PS or Leeton PS in their second fixture. We wish all students representing the school good luck for what will be a busy day. Our representative teams are:

LNPSSA Swimming Championships The LNPSSA Swimming Championships will be held at the Lake Talbot Pool in Narrandera next Tuesday, 19th February. Students who have qualified for this event from the Parkview PS carnival will be notified as
soon as practical following the conclusion of our school carnival. Permission notes for this event will be distributed on Wednesday. Students will travel as a team by bus to the event.
