What Is Parole Release? Inmates serving sentences of six months or more are generally eligible for parole release after serving one-third of their sentences. Board members of the Commission québécoise des libérations conditionnelles (CQLC) can decide on the granting and revocation of this privilege.

This measure allows you to serve the remainder of your sentence in the community as long as you comply with the conditions imposed by the CQLC.

The Act respecting the Québec correctional system determines the terms for granting parole release.

Parole release is subject to supervision conditions that restrict your freedom and provide for ensuring your supervision. It also includes conditions to help you reintegrate into society.

If you are granted parole release, you will have to meet with a correctional officer or a probation officer. The probation officer may ask for the involvement of a community caseworker who you will have to meet with on a regular basis and who will keep your probation officer apprised of your progress.

Why Is Parole Release a Possibility? The CQLC is offering you the privilege of serving part of your sentence in the community because of your motivation, your personal situation, and your absence plan.

parole release enables you to pursue the steps begun dur-ing detention to resolve problems that contributed to your encounters with the criminal-justice system. This will allow to assume your obligations with those closest to you, con-tinue your education, or hold a job. Basically, it gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to function ap-propriately in society.

You will therefore regularly meet with a caseworker from correctional services or community caseworker to take stock of your situation. You will benefit from his or her advice and support during your parole release.
