Renew My Church Begins As February came to an end we began Lent and as we enter March St. Ignatius Parish officially begins the East Roger Park – Edgewater Renew My Church (RMC) process. Both Lent and Renew My Church invite us to focused prayer and reflection. As individuals this Lent how do we deepen our relationship to Christ to grow stronger in our ability to avoid temptations like Jesus does while in the desert? How do we, like Jesus, strive to serve God alone? As a parish community we begin the RMC phase of discerning our future as we engage our partners, St Je-rome, St Gertrude, Loyola University and the local Jesuit community. We as a parish community have to fo-cus our prayer and reflection so that we can, with our partners, discern a new model of being a Catholic pres-ence in the neighborhood. As this process begins the Parish Pastoral Council has asked me to keep the St Ignatius community informed of the meetings and developments that have occurred since the parish decided to work with Loyola University and the local Jesuit community. In the past month I have been at several meetings with various partners dis-cussing the hope for the creation of a Mission Center at St Ignatius. First, Fr Dan and I approached the upper administration of Loyola to determine their openness to help develop a Mission Center. Loyola strongly affirmed their desire to work with the parish and asked me to chair a com-mittee to explore possible Loyola programs that could be housed in the St Ignatius Mission Center. I convened the initial meeting of departments at Loyola on February 19th. I reviewed the history of the parish’s discern-ment process from last fall and provided them with the list of parishioners’ program preferences. Committee members then presented programs that they sensed would be a possible fit. Ideas for counseling, daycare, medical and legal assistance, immigration support, English as a second language, (ESL) and others were of-fered. This committee will meet every other week with the goal of drafting a proposal for Loyola’s president to re-view by April 1st. With the president’s approval to move forward with the Mission Center the proposal would then be shared with our Parish Pastoral Council. Fr Dan and I also met with two of the Archdiocese RMC leaders to describe to them the idea of the collabora-tive mission between the parish, Loyola University and the local Jesuit community. Fr Jason Malave and Mr. Tim Weiske were very supportive and encouraging about our potential center as it fits into the RMC process. They notified us that Mr. Tom Lenz will be the consultant who guides us through the RMC process. Fr Rich Prendergast, Fr Noel Reyes and I met with Bishop Bartosic to inform him that we three had been in conversation about St Ignatius’s discernment and how the three “pastors” were very encouraged about the be-ginning of the RMC process. What has been most hopeful for me is the support that Bishop Bartosic and Frs. Prendergast and Reyes have for the role that St. Ignatius will play in developing the future of church in our community. As the RMC process moves forward I have been made aware of the following meetings:

A Pastors/Pastoral Coordinator meeting for the next round of RMC churches with Cardinal Cupich on March 9

An East Rogers Park RMC pastors meeting with RMC Consultant, Mr. Tom Lenz. Mr. Lenz will describe to pastors the RMC process and work with us in establishing dates for the coming year. This meeting is scheduled for March 20 at St Gertrude.

A retreat in early May for the pastors/pastoral coordinator beginning the RMC process A RMC Groupings Retreat in June for the teams from each parish that will work on the RMC process. Our

grouping is St Ignatius, St Jerome and St Gertrude parishes. Each parish will select five parishioners to serve on the RMC team with the pastor/pastoral coordinator from each parish.

More details will follow in the coming months. In the meantime please hold the RMC process in your prayer. Deacon Chris

Comienza Renueva Mi Iglesia Al finalizar febrero y al comenzar la Cuaresma y comenzamos marzo, la Parroquia de San Ignacio comienza oficialmente el proceso de Renueva Mi Iglesia Roger Park Este – Edgewater. Tanto Cuaresma como Renueva Mi Iglesia nos invita a centrarnos en oración y reflexión. Como individuos en esta Cuaresma, ¿cómo profundi-zamos nuestra relación con Cristo para crecer en nuestra habilidad para evitar tentaciones como Jesús hace en el desierto? ¿Cómo nosotros, como Jesús, buscamos servir sólo a Dios? ¿Cómo comunidad parroquial comenzamos la fase RMI de discernimiento nuestro futuro mientras conversa-mos con nuestros socios, St Jerome, St Gertrude, Loyola University y la comunidad Jesuita local. Como comu-nidad parroquial tenemos que centrar nuestras oraciones y reflexión así podemos, con nuestros socios, discer-nir un nuevo modelo de ser la presencia católica en la comunidad. Al comenzar este proceso le Consejo Pastoral Parroquial me ha pedido que mantenga la comunidad de San Ig-nacio informada de las reuniones y noticias que han ocurrido desde que la parroquia ha decidido trabajar con la Universidad de Loyola y la comunidad Jesuita local. El último mes he tenido muchas reuniones con varios socios conversando la posibilidad de la creación del un Centro de Misión en San Ignacio. Primero, el Padre Dan y yo hablamos con la administración de Loyola para determinar su apertura de desarro-llar un Centro de Misión. Loyola ha confirmado su deseo de trabajar con la parroquia y me pidió que organiza-ra un comité para explorar los posibles programas que podrían funcionar en el Centro de Misión San Ignacio. Convoque la reunión inicial con los departamentos de Loyola el 19 de febrero. Comuniqué la historia del pro-ceso de discernimiento parroquial el otoño pasado y presente la lista de los programas que los feligreses esta-ban interesados. Miembros del comité presentaron programas que ellos creen que pueden ser posibles. Ideas para consejería, guardería, ayuda legar y medica, apoyo de inmigración, enseñanza de inglés (ESL) y otros fueron ofrecidos. Este comité se reunirá regularmente con el objetivo de escribir una propuesta para que la presidenta de Loyola revise el 1 de abril. Con la aprobación de la presidente podríamos avanzar y le propuesta del Centro de Misión será presentado al Consejo Pastoral Parroquial. Fr Dan y yo nos hemos reunido con dos de los lideres de la Archidiócesis RMI para describirle la idea de la misión cooperativa entre la parroquia, la Universidad de Loyola y la comunidad Jesuita local. Padre Jason Ma-lave y Mr. Tim Weiske fueron muy solidarios y alentadores sobre la posibilidad de nuestro centro y como fun-ciona con el proceso RMI. Nos comunicaros que Mr. Tom Lenz será el consultor que nos guiará en el proceso RMI. Reunión de los Párrocos/Coordinador Pastoral para la segunda ronda de iglesias RMI con el Cardenal Cu-pich el 9 de marzo

Reunión de párrocos del RMI Rogers Park Este con el consultor, Mr. Tom Lenz. Mr. Lenz describirá a los párrocos el proceso RMI y buscará en establecer fechas para el próximo año. Esta reunión será el 20 de marzo en St Gertrude.

Retiro a principio de Mayo para los párrocos/coordinador pastoral comenzando el proceso RMI Retiro de Grupo de RMI en junio para los equipos de cada parroquia que trabajaran en el proceso de RMI.

Nuestro grupo son las parroquia St Ignatius, St Jerome y St Gertrude. Cada parroquia elijará cinco feli-greses para estar en el equipo RMI con el párroco/coordinador pastoral de cada parroquia.

San Pablo escribió estas palabras para los Galatas hace muchos anhos atrás, pero son verdaderas para nosotros también. Durante esta primera semana com-pleta parece que nuestro camino de Cauresma es lar-go, y que nos cansaremos. Si perseveramos en ora-ción y ayuno, nos volveremos fuertes en nuestro es-fuerzo y nuestro camino será corto. En Pascua cose-charemos los frutos de nuestros esfuerzos. ¿Ha deci-dido ya que hará durante esta cuaresma? Puede en-contrar varias oportunidades de oración en el boletín esta semana. Durante la Cuaresma también puede servir a otros. ¿Tiene algún pariente o vecinos que agradecería una llamado, una visita o una nota? De-jándoles saber que son valorados y apreciados. ¿Tiene tiempo disponible durante la despensa para ayudar a alimentar a los necesitados? Contacte a Kathy Morris. ¿Le gustaría leer a alguien que está aprendiendo inglés? Hay un grupo de refugiados que está buscando lectores. ¿Le interesaría organizar una colecta de ítems de limpieza personal en su tra-bajo o escuela? Hay muchas maneras de ayudar que puede hacer durante Cuaresma y todo el año. Piense en sus talentos y como los puede compartir así cuan-do llega la Pascua puede recibir las gracias de una Cuaresma bien utilizada.

St. Paul wrote these words to the Galatians many years ago, but they hold true for us. During this first full week it seems that our Lenten journey is long, and we will weary. If we stick to prayer and fasting, we will actually grow stronger in our resolve and our journey will be short. At Easter we will reap the har-vest of our works. Have you decided what you will be doing for Lent? You can find various opportuni-ties for prayer in this week’s bulletin. During Lent you can also serve others. Do you have a relative or neighbor that would benefit from a phone call, a visit or maybe just a note? Letting them know that they are appreciated and valued. Do you have free time during food pantry hours to help feed your neighbors in need? If so, contact Kathy Morris. Would you like to read to someone learning English? There are refugee groups that are looking for readers. Would you like to organize a personal care item drive at your business or school? There are many different ways that you can do right now during Lent and all year. Consider your talents and how you can share them so that when Easter arrives you will reap the graces from a Lent well spent.

Sta on of the Cross:

Walk the Way of the Cross with Us as we recall Christ’s Passion and Death of the Cross.

You are invited every Friday during Lent at 7 pm in the Chapel. We will alternate between English and Spanish. Easy-to-follow booklets will be provided. Following the Sta ons, stay for a potluck Simple Supper in the Holy Name Room.

Adora on to the Blessed Sacrament

Like every First Friday, we will have Adora on in the Chapel from 8:30 am to 3 pm. There will be a Mass at 3 pm in English. Don’t miss it this coming Friday, March 6.

Mass of Healing:

You are invited to par cipate in this new offering. Every First Saturday of the month there will be the opportunity for Adora on to the Blessed Sacra-ment and the Sacrament of Reconcilia on at 5 pm.

At 6 pm will be a Bilingual Mass of Healing with the opportunity to receive the Anoin ng of the Sick. The next will be this coming Saturday, March 7.

Lenten Reflec on Book Group: The Lenten Reflec on Book Group will meet on Sun-days in the rectory dining room from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The book that will be discussed is “Love, A Guide for Prayer” and follows the model of the Ex-ercise form St. Igna us of Loyola. Misa de Sanación:

Los invitamos a par cipar de este nuevo ofrecimien-to. Cada Primer Sábado del Mes tendrá la oportuni-dad de Adoración al San simo Sacramento y del Sacramento de Reconciliación a las 5 pm.
