TERMS
Interviewed my grandmother from my dad’s side of the family. She was born in the year 1965 which marks the end
for the baby boomer generation
Religion was Catholic
My Great grandparents immigrated into the U.S. illegally in 1962; were part of the 4th wave of immigration
Emigrated out of Mexico due to push factors such as unemployment, low wages, lack of education, and poverty
Immigrated into the U.S. due to pull factors such as better jobs and living conditions.
PUSH AND PULL FACTORS
Great grandfather worked as a welder for the city of Los Angeles; worked in the tertiary sector
Great-great grandfather worked as a migrant farmer by entering the U.S. only during the farming season then going
back to Mexico where he lived with his family; worked in the primary sector
SECTORS OF ECONOMY
My Great grandfather went from living in the rural desert town of Cuquio, Jalisco, Mexico to the urbanized densely
populated city of Los Angeles.
My grandparent’s pointed of entry was El Sereno, California
It was a big change, but they successfully assimilated into the new American culture
ASSIMILATION
My Great grandfather settled in the same ethnic neighborhood once he entered the U.S.
Allowed him to preserve a lot of his culture while adopting a new one
Family then expanded to different areas like Alhambra, Ontario, and Oahu
