Preaching is a declaration of war against Satan– “This charge I commit to you, son

Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare” (1 Tim. 1:18)

– He is engaged in a good fight (cf. 1 Tim. 6:12)

– He is not engaged in comedy or showbiz; he is not a pacifist; he is not to live in neutrality

5. His Conflict

Does This Sound Neutral?

• “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (Matt. 12:30)

• “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” (Rev. 3:16)

• “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons” (1 Cor. 10:21)

1. Will fight the good fight of “faith” 1 Tim. 6:12; cf. 1 Tim. 1:3, 4; 2 Cor. 10:3-5

2. Will endure hardship (2 Tim. 2:3, 5-10) Fulfill and follow through rather than abandon

his ministry (cf. 2 Tim. 4:5)

3. Will not become distracted with the things in this life (2 Tim. 2:4; 1 Tim. 5:21)

4. Will serve to please his Commander and not men (2 Tim. 2:4) See also 2 Cor. 5:9; 1 Cor. 7:23; 1 Thess. 2:4

God’s Minister—A Good Warrior

“but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in

the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the

pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15)

6. His Conduct

• Exercise toward godliness, “But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness” (1 Tim. 4:7)

• Be an example, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim. 4:12)

6. His Conduct

It cannot be overstated the need to safeguard against scandal! 1 Timothy 5:1, 2:

1 Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger as sisters, with all purity” (1 Tim. 5:1, 2)

“In Purity”

19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses.20 Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.21 I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing with partiality.22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure.

Do Not SHARE In Sin

1 Timothy 5:19-22

• “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness” (1 Tim. 6:11)

• “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Tim. 2:22)
