Technologies Part 6

Technologies Used• Over the course of producing this text I have come across new

technologies I had not before. In these technologies I now have a greater understanding about how they work and most importantly, how to use them. Here is a list of technologies I have used.

• -Blogger• -Prezi• -Adobe After Effects• -Premier Pro• -Uploading to YouTube• Premier Pro’s Various Effects• Filming equipment • Slide Share

Blogger and Prezi• Blogger is a technology in which allows a person

to upload content and embed links for everyone to see.

• Blogger has allowed me to learn many things. I learnt how to create a blog and how to upload content to it. This assisted me in keeping my work organised and looking presentable. Blogger was a good resource to use as you are able embed YouTube clips and presentations via slide share.

• Prezi is a sharing device which allows a person to show their work in a creative and efficient way.

• Prezi has allowed me to gain a new creative outlook on presenting my media work. I have learnt how to show my work in a more attractive and complete way. Understanding this technology gives me a wider range in how to present my work.

Editing • The first stage of editing was done for our Prelim Task. We were asked to create a

text which used certain elements, such as the 180 rule. For this task I used IMovie, a simple programme. This was all that was required and meant it was easy and quick to edit. Here is where I gained confidence to branch out and use Premier Pro for the real thing.

• The main technology I used to edit my media text was Premier Pro. This was a whole new device to me, so from the start I was intrigued to learn. It was clear from the start that picking up how to edit in depth would take time, therefore I watched peers edit theirs and picked up certain skills. On premier pro I learnt how to accomplish many tasks. These ranged from cutting and ordering clips to syncing sound with shot duration.

• In the process of using Premier I have learnt how to:

• Edit, using swift transitions and crop/cut shots• Add sound and correspond it to certain shots• Colour grading, such as the use of Hues• Overlaying credits and importing them from After Effects• Creating an Ident• Rendering clips• Uploading and saving to YouTube

After Effects• We used after effects solely for credits only. We

gained inspiration for our credits from a Twilight film from the saga.

• The credits were clean and simple, but most importantly changed colour from red to white. This is what caught our eye. We had to use many tutorials in which assisted us in reaching a positive final product. It took a lot of time and effort to master the credits.

• When we had completed each credit, we had to separately import each credit into premier which took time. However, overall I believe it was worth the effort as the credits ended up looking very nice.

Equipment• To film the bulk of our film we used a Canon 700D. The shots we filmed with this are

those not near/in the water. We had to be cautious with this as the environment surrounding us meant if we misplaced the camera It would easily get damaged. This camera was good as it gave a clear image and helped us visually. The camera also was easy to use and using lens adaptors meant that we were able to vary our shot distances. E.g. using a micro for extreme close up shots.

• We used a Gopro Hero 3 to film many of our underwater shots and shots close to the water. This camera is highly versatile and allowed us to near the water knowing that it’s water resistant with a case. The Gopro also has a wide angled lens meaning we were able to capture more in the frame. This helped give the audience a clear and closer perspective of the scene and surrounding objects. The Gopro was also used for underwater shots as the Sony underwater camera didn’t have the clearest lens therefore made it hard for the audience to get a clear representations of what they were supposed to be looking at.

• A Tripod was used to help keep the camera still and steady. The reason for the use of this piece of equipment wasn’t as necessary as others, however, allowed us to still the camera, predominantly used in the flash backs.

• Lastly we used a Stabilizer to help create smooth looking shots that were steady and not shaky (when they weren't meant to be). It was used when we filmed the parts in-between the credits to help build a visual effect.
