Mature StudentsStudents who satisfy the following conditions may apply for consideration to join MCAST programmes as mature students:

• Be in possession of the School Leaving Certificate• Have, by the end of the current calendar year:• I. Attained the age of 23 years for entry to programmes at MQC Level 5,

Level 6 and Level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework.• II. Attained the age of 21 years for entry to programmes at Level 4 on the

National Qualifications Framework.• III. Attained the age of 19 years for entry to programmes at Level 3 on the

National Qualifications Framework.• Demonstrate that they stand to benefit and show that they are able to follow

Programmes and other Foreign Awarding BodiesIt is the responsibility of the student to ensure that applications for examinations are duly filled in and submitted at the corresponding Institute. Late applications will be subject to a ‘late application fee’.

Running of CoursesTo all eligible applicants:1. Course Starting Date

All eligible applicants shall receive an email indicating the starting date and venue. Dates scheduled on the MCAST website are only indicative.Candidates are responsible to provide valid email addresses and to check their email for messages regularly. Once MCAST records that an email notification has been sent to a candidate, the responsibility rests on the candidate to note the course starting date and other details.

2. Cancellation of Lectures Cancellation of lectures will be communicated to students via SMS on the mobile number indicated on the application form, unless notified directly by the lecturer by other means.”

Course Examinations and CertificationSuccessful completion of courses certified by MCAST entitles the student to either a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ or a ‘Certificate of Achievement’. Further information on which type of certificate one can achieve can be obtained from the course outline available on shortcourses.mcast.edu.mt.

1. Certificate of AttendanceA certificate will be issued if attendance exceeds 80% of course duration.

2. Certificate of AchievementTo obtain a Certificate of Achievement, a student must;• Attend a minimum of 80% of the course• Pass successfully the test/assessment.

A student will not be eligible to any certificates, even if successful in the final test/assessment, where recorded attendance falls below 80% of the course.

Absence due to sickness as attested by a Medical Certificate may be exempted.

Full CertificationCourses to which a MCAST Level and number of ECTS/ECVET have been assigned can be used as building blocks leading to a full Certification.”“As an example, it may be possible to take separate units at Level 4 in engineering totalling up to 30 credits and thus qualify for a Level 4 Certificate in Engineering. The combination of units needs to be approved in advance by MCAST.

Units can also be taken separately and in such cases a single unit certificate will be issued after successful completion of the unit.
