Over time, accumulations of the se erupted products on the earth’s surface c reate a volcanic mou ntain. (Washington State Hazard Mitigation P lan. Tab 7.1.8 - p.1) Figure 12 Volcano Hazards Source: USGS Fact Sheet 002-97 Description There are no volcanoes in Grays Harbor County, but volcanoes dominate the Cascade Mountain Range approximately 60 miles to the east. Mt. Rainier is consider ed the “giant” of the Cascade Range volcanoes and the consequences of a major eruption would be cataclysmic for th e entire Pacific Northwest. Mt. St. Helens, located in southwest Washington State, is currently the most active volcano in the Cascade Range. An eruption from either Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helens could be expected to affect the
