Partes del cuerpoTrifold Flashcards
The purpose of these trifold flashcards is to introduce new verbs, vocabulary, and grammar in context. Just as children learn naturally by hearing words and grammar in context, your students will, too. Each picture and set of sentences teaches them the meaning of the new vocabulary word. While they fill in the blanks on side A of the flashcards, they are working on using the vocabulary in a natural, spoken context.
By using the vocab in context, students learn the meaning better and see firsthand examples of how to use the words correctly with the articles, prepositions, and pronouns that often surround them. The methodology of the trifold flashcards will enable them to understand better and speak more fluently as they become accustomed to the flow of Spanish.

The idea is that as they see these structures, they become familiar with them. When you actually teach more complicated structures (preterite, commands, prepositions.), they will have already seen them several times. Sneaky, I know, but it works. I realized much of this as I was raising my own kids bilingually. They speak fluently and never once conjugated a verb.Just think back to how you learned your native language –same principle.
If you think this may be too challenging for your students, preview some of the new structures and grammar. If you have students who really struggle, you can give them the cheat sheets with grammar and vocabulary. However, I would suggest having your students try it or doing a few together as a class before resorting to this. The more they use these, the more familiar they will become with the tricky grammar.

Teacher GuideHow to Use the Flashcards (Sides A and B):
* Click to see a video of how to use these.
* Print a copy of each set of sheets back to back for each student. You can print in color or black and white. Students can add color to the black and white pictures when they’re done with the other parts.
* Have students cut out each strip and then fold the sheet along the dotted lines and along the solid line on the right side of the vocab word so that the large picture is the top part of the booklet.
* Depending on your printer, the cards may not line up exactly, but should be close enough with the thick lines that it should still work when you cut them out.

Lesson PlanHow to Use the Flashcards (Sides A and B):* Flip the first strip over and have the students fill in the blanks on side B. * Continue to do side A and side B for vocab 2-5 on the sheet.

Lesson Plan
Sentence Translation and Vocab Review:* Go over the answers in class by having each student go to the board to write out the three sentences. Using the lined paper, have the students write the sentences in Spanish. This is an important step because it solidifies the grammar and vocabulary
in their minds. At the end of these exercises, each student will have written each word at least 9 times – a great start to incorporating them into their permanent vocabulary. * Students can attach their folding booklet to the page of translations with a paperclip so that they can review the vocab by flipping the pictures to study for a quiz or test.

Lesson Plan
Flashcards and Vocab Review:* Students can cut the picture flashcards off the folding flashcard and use them as flashcards to review.
* Once they are done reviewing and have taken the quiz, they can staple all the cut-up flashcards together. They can keep these in an envelope or tape the booklets to a page in their
notebooks or folders to keep for end of year review. Whenever they want to review, they can pull off the piece of tape, take the staple out, practice, and then put them back.

Want More?• Get updates when new trifolds come out (vocab and verbs).
Fast Finishers:* Have some students who finish before the others? Have them write another trifold flashcard and draw a picture of it. They can either write the whole thing, or leave blanks so that other students can fill in the answers. For side A, leave just the blank for the vocab word and for side B leave more blanks in the sentences.Sub Plans:* Leave a set of these in a folder as sub plans when you’re out. It’s a great review for your students and it’s very easy for the sub since all the directions are included and after doing one set of these your students will know how to do them. Interactive Notebooks:* Use these as part of your interactive notebooks. Instead of using the answer sheet provided, have students write the vocabulary word on the top line of the page and then number 1-3 underneath. They write the sentences in their notebooks and then attach the flashcards with paperclips. Depending on the size of the page, they can attach 4-5 cards. On the back side, they can then use all 4-5 words in sentences, an original paragraph, questions, or a story. Teacher Prep for Sub Plans
** I recommend preparing a few sets of these sub plans at the beginning of the year and keeping themin an emergency sub plans folder with your classseating charts, class schedules, and any other info. the sub might need. You may wish to separate themby colored folder by topic (reflexive verbs, AR presenttense verbs, school supplies, etc.) Then we’re you’resick or have to miss class unexpectedly, you can justhave your sub pull out the folder and you can relax.
1. Print back to back copies of sets of trifoldflashcards for each student (Sides A, B). Print outpackets of the writing pages (back to back).
2. Print copies of the blank flashcards for fast finishers.
3. Print the sub plans page.
4. Print the answer keys for the sets that you are using.
5. Print the page of translated vocabulary.
6. Leave scissors (one pair for each student) and paper clips (or have them find paper clips at home).

1. Pass out the trifold flashcards and a pair of scissors toeach student.
2. Have students cut the flashcards (into strips). They fillout side A of the flashcard (the side with only smallpictures), and then flip it over and fill out side B.

3. Pick students to write all 3 sentences for each vocabon the board and have them read the answers andmake any necessary corrections.
4. Students write the 3 sentences from the flashcardonto the sheet with just lines.
5. Continue to repeat this process for each word.
6. While the students are working, cut up some of theblank strips. For students who finish early, give themone blank strip (not a full page, just one), and havethem create their own trifold flashcard with anothervocab expression.
