With its smart specialization strategy, Slovenia recog-nizesmobility as a prioritynotonlyintermsofusers'needs,butalsoduetothestrongconcentrationofcom-petencesandcapacitiesinthefieldofresearchandde-velopment,aswellas theprovisionofnewsolutions,servicesandproductstotheautomotiveindustryandmore broadly to the field ofmobility. The SRIP ACS+Strategic Development Innovation Partnership bringstogethermembersoftwokeyassociationsinthefieldofmobility in Slovenia, theBusiness Association ACS Automotive cluster of SloveniaandtheAssociation for Transport at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.

ThedesireandambitionoftheStrategicDevelopmentInnovationPartnership is to createeven strongertiesbetweenallthosewhocreatenewmobilitysolutions.

The GIZ ACS founded in 2001with theaim of combining Slovenian suppliers

withtheautomotiveindustryandmotorvehiclemanu-facturerstoenhancetheircompetitiveability,therebyincreasingaddedvalueandstrengtheningthecompet-itivenessoftheentireeconomy.Fromtheverybegin-ning,greatattentionwaspaidtothecreationofanin-ternalorganizationandtheinvolvementofexistingandnewACSmembers,aswellastheinternationalvisibilityofboththeassociationanditsmembers.Today,wepaythegreatestattentiontocreatingnewbusinessoppor-

tunitiesformembers,qualityinterconnectionsbetwe-enACSmembers,developingtheclusterconceptandinternationalimplementation.

The Association of transport is arecognizableandpervasiverepresent-ativeof the interestsof itsmembers.Throughout its years of operation it

hasstrengtheneditsreputationandensuredlong-termsuccessfulfulfillmentofmembers‘expectations.

MOBILITY IN SLOVENIA

THE OLDEST WOODEN WHEEL WITH AXEL FOUND IN SLOVENIA

Sloveniaassuchhasbeenatthefrontendofmobilitysinceancienttimes;the oldest wooden wheelwith an axel ever found,was discovered in thesuroundingsofLjubljanaanddatesto3,000BC.Thediscoveryiscertainlyimpor-tant,notonlyforSloveniabutontheEuropeanandglobalscale.

FOUNDER OF THE AUSTRIAN PUCH AUTOMOBILE PLANT

Janez Puch (Johann Puch, 27 June 1862 – 19 July 1914)wasaSlovene inventorandmechanicwhowentontobecomethefounderoftheAustrianPuchautomobileplant,nowMagnalocationinGraz,thenoneofthemostsignificantvehi-cleproducersinEurope.Hisinnovativeachievementsledtothefoundingofhisownmanufacturingcompanyin1899,calledJohann Puch - Erste steiermärkische Fahrrad-Fabriks-Actien Gesellschaft(FirstStyrianBicycleStockCompany)inGraz.Thecompanystartedproducingmotorcyclesin1903andautomobilesin1904.By1912thePuchfactoryemplo-yed1,100workersandmanufactured300cars,300motorcyclesand16,000bicyclesperyear.

ThefirstBenzVeloComfortablecarwaspurchasedbyBaronAntonIIIvonCodelliFahnenfeld , fromOttermaninVienna.Thepurchasedvehiclewasmorelikealighttwo-seatercarriagethanacar.ItwasfirstseenonthestreetsofLjubljanaonNovember15,1898.Thenextdayonecouldread:»The first car appeared yesterday in Ljubljana and raised the biggest sensation. Children stubbed behind him.
