FIRsT WoRDHeart-felt words, straight from the top.

ZHOOBEN BHIWANDIWALAExecutive Vice-President & Managing Partner

PARAG SHAHManaging Partner

Dear Colleagues,

Partners’ Medley is now 3 issues old ! Our

attempt to showcase our diverse portfolio

companies is slowly but steadily gaining

momentum.

Speaking of diversity, the HR Leaders

of Partners’ companies had recently come

together for the first time to explore HR

synergies. Building & managing a diverse

workforce was one of the key challenges that

was identified by the team. Ordinarily, when we

speak of diversity, gender and colour comes

to our mind. But the definition of diversity is

much broader: the variety of characteristics

comprising our identity that includes not

only race and gender, but also ethnicity, age,

religious affiliation, and physical and mental

capacity. We believe that an organisation is

as successful as the people who work there.

Any organisation unprepared to meet the

challenges of a rapidly changing workforce will

be left behind, missing opportunities to create

the next success story. Hence, Diversity is not a

choice but it is the need of the hour.

Mahindra Partners is a medley of diverse

organisations. We are all different and yet the

same. It is now time to cultivate and appreciate

diversity within our respective ecosystems.

We would like to sign off by quoting Malcolm

Stevenson Forbes : “Diversity..the art of

thinking independently together.” Let’s master

this art and change the game !

Regards,

Zhooben & Parag

Hello everyone,

Welcome to another edition of Partners’ Medley

the common thread that helps Mahindra Partners

bond and creates camaraderie.

Our story in-focus is ‘Mahindra Intertrade’:

pioneers in the Indian steel processing space. We

connect with the ‘soul’ of steel – the employees that

keep MIL ahead in the race.

Being an end-to-end solutions provider in flat

steel is MIL’s aspiration; a company with many firsts

to its credit, this surely is an inspiration.

Also, in store are our regular features, albeit with

a difference. Accepting your valuable feedback, we

believe change is the only constant.

We showcase ‘Rise Stories’ as also truly know our

colleagues and ‘Get Friendly’. The ‘Live well’ column

tells us about Being Positive and preaches ever so

gently.

We close with us reinforcing our commitment to

promoting diversity at our workplace. With enabling

processes that will facilitate, evolve and pick up pace.

Partner’s Medley looks forward to your valuable

suggestions and till we meet next time,

Keep smiling …… as your future you define.

The success story of

Mahindra logistics

(Mnal, chakan-

inspirational. Its

production and

deliveries have risen

to more than double

from where it started in

March 2011. At that time,

a nine-member team of

MLL handled shipments

of 200 trucks. Today,

in a short span of 12

months the productivity

of the team has gone up

by more than 200% and

it handles shipments of

600 trucks. The team’s

philosophy of everyone

taking responsibility

has made this possible.

This Rise Team took

shape under the

leadership of Mr.

satyendra. n. lal. The

success story was also

scripted by operational

professionals like Mr.

pankaj Joshi who

displayed enormous

team efforts to achieve

the deliverables.

We share this

achievement with every

member of the team

who burnt the midnight

oil to rise up to this level.

The cumulative efforts

resulted in achieving

90+ % in transit-time

performances and 100%

customer satisfaction

in handling some of the

sensitive movements

like Auto Expo 2012

dispatches and

transporting trucks on

trailers for video shoots.

Undoubtedly, with the

support of this committed

team we are sure to Rise.

you all have shown that

government school,

from Jan 11, after due

permission from the

authorities. The school

students come from

very low income group

Their Concern

Resolution Executive,

Ms. archana singh,

worked out a model (for

15 students) and the

MLL team conducted

classes everyday till the

final exams. The results

were very satisfactory

though there is still a

long way to go.

On January 14, 15

team members from

the Mll auto team

in haridwar visited

‘Chandra Shekhar

Kushth Ashram’ where

we distributed food and

clothes to 77 orphans –

children whose parents

suffer from leprosy. The

contribution for the

same had been made by

our employees.

The haridwar team

also donated 20 sets

of benches and two

drinking water tanks to

the Primary Municipal

School, Chandi Ghat.

The benches were

made out of scrapped

wooden boxes that were

received in the Auto

Plant in Haridwar.

The Bengaluru team

has worked out a tie-

up with ‘Samarthanam

Trust’ for re-cycling the

waste items generated

at the office. All

the waste items are

now collected by the

‘Samarthanam-Parisara’

Resources mobilised

the recycled items are

used for the welfare of

the visually impaired

and disabled. The team

is also exploring the

possibility of buying

back the recycled

stationery and other

office items for office

use and for the personal

use of employees.

The Mll Kolkata

educative and fun trip.

The five-hour event was

called ‘Learning can be

LIve moReBe positiveAll of us know the metaphor

of a glass that is half filled

with water. How many of us

see it as half full, and how

many as half empty? The

glass is the same – it is the

attitude of the one who sees

it that is different.

Attitude – one word

that defines how we think,

what we believe and

something that affects how

we behave and interact

with each other. Since

almost all of us spend

most of our waking hours

at work, a good, positive

attitude is necessary to

stay calm, work well and

grow together.

Don’t be the office

crab. We all know one.

He or she can’t find a

good thing to say about

anything or anyone.

Focus on the

positive: Emotions like

anger, jealousy are often

found when people are

working together in

similar positions. Give

positive responses to

every negative one you

get or sense. Tell people

that what they said was

interesting or make greater

eye contact and listen

carefully. This adds to the

positive vibes in a place.

Fix goals: Be realistic

in planning your targets.

One step at a time works

wonders!

Get along: Being at an

office involves interactions

with a variety of people.

Some you may like, others

you may not and some

may not get along with

you. Remember, you

cannot change

the behaviour

patterns of

others; so

invest time on

how you can

improve

your

interactions with them.

value your job: Don’t

focus on what is wrong.

Instead, every day, make a

list of five things you like.

You will soon find the list

growing to ten and more!

Go beyond the

obvious: In every

‘setback’, find the hidden

opportunity. If a meeting

with a client has gone

wrong, use it as a learning

lesson to see why it went

wrong and to avoid a

similar result in the future.

think before you act

and speak: We often speak

or act in a hurry or in a

temper and live to regret it

later. Take just a minute to

assess whether what you

are going to say or do will

hurt or help the situation.

Just that one minute will

help.

Finally,

remember

that being positive does

not mean you have to be

bubbly, and enthusiastic

24/7. That would be

a turn-off in any work

place. Being positive

means being polite, calm,

optimistic and rising to the

situation when required!

Try these simple

mantras for a little

while and see how they

transform your life!
