Girls on the Run Michiana is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit activity-based positive youth development program designed to empower girls to successfully navigate adolescence and beyond. This 10-week transformational program uses running games and activities to teach skills related to competence, confidence, connection, character and caring. Girls also contribute to their community through a team-designed service project.

The Girls on the Run Michiana 5K Celebration is the culminating moment for girls who will have completed the 10-week program. The 2020 5K Celebration will draw over 2,700 participants, making it the largest 5K in Michiana! The 5K Celebration typically enjoys robust media coverage and sponsor signage/tables are prominently placed to encourage top visibility. 5K participants include girls (age 8-14), parents and guardians, coaches, running buddies and community members. The 5K Celebration also attracts over 1,000 spectators who cheer the girls on to the confidence that comes from accomplishment as they cross the finish line.

The program is offered on a sliding fee scale based on Free and Reduced Lunch. Girls on the Run Michiana is committed to never turning a girl away due to financial constraints.

In 2020, over 60% of our girls will receive financial assistance totaling over $100,000 in scholarships.
