Es un tiempo verbal que se utiliza para describir acciones que han sucedido en un tiempo anterior y que ya han finalizado.

She cleaned her house. Ella limpió su casa.

PASADO SIMPLE

Tanto en la forma interrogativa como en negativa se utiliza

como auxiliar DID que es la forma pasada del verbo “TO DO” y

acompaña al verbo principal en infinitivo. En las negaciones puede utilizarse la forma contraída de DID

Es importante recordar que en la manera afirmativa en el caso de los

verbos irregulares, se debe escribir el pasado de dicho verbo irregular

puedes usar contracciones en el negativo: I WASN'T en reemplazo de I was not y YOU WEREN'T en lugar de You were not.

Al igual que en el presente simple usaremos 'there was' cuando el sustantivo al que acompaña es un sustantivo contable en singular o uno incontable y 'there were' con los sustantivos contables en plural.
