pascal demeester interview

Interview: Interviewed by: Randy Lin Here at MV Photo Lab, we had the wonderful opportunity to work closely with Pascal Demeester, a fashion, beauty and advertising photographer. As a longtime veteran of the commercial industry, Pascal has shot award-winning campaigns for brands such as Mercedes, Perrier and Carlsberg. Nonetheless, his real calling is in fine art photography in which Pascal is truly dedicated. His main influences include the Western canon of landscape photography and paintings in particular that of the Belgian and French countryside. His most recent work includes Vanishing Point in which he revisits the subject. After publishing a small segment of Vanishing Point on the blog, we decided to sit down with Pascal to hear in further detail his thoughts on the project: Interviewer: Coming from a commercial/fashion field, what impact do you think your experiences in that industry made on your vision and project? Pascal: My commercial/fashion job has strictly made no impact on my artistic projects. For 25 plus years, my commercial/fashion work was totally independent from my artistic reflections. I wouldn't say that I'm coming from a commercial/fashion field. I have always considered myself as a visual artist using different mediums (Painting, Sculpture & Photography). Commercial/fashion photo work just helps financially feed those projects. Interviewer: Why approach film as opposed to digital when shooting this project?
