BLENDFESTThe only festival dedicated to blends, Paso Robles BlendFest showcases what the region has become known for, rule-breaking, unconventional blends. Featuring more than 30 of Paso Robles’ renowned wineries, Grow Wild beyond a glass of everyday wine at this intimate tasting event.

VINTAGE PASO: ZINFANDELGrow Wild with the spirit of Paso Robles Wine Country in celebration of Vintage Paso Weekend, the third weekend in March. This festival weekend recognizes Paso’s heritage variety, Zinfandel, as well as the diversity of the Paso Robles Wine Region with more than 40 winegrape varieties grown.

More than 140 wineries offer special tastings, live music, winemaker dinners, and other unique events.

WINE FESTIVALJoin us each May for our annual Wine Festival – a celebration of the innovation, triumphs, and character of this spectacular region.

This May celebration of everything Paso Robles began in 1983 when the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA) was first designated. The AVA’s first 17 wineries laid wood planks over barrels in the Downtown Park and poured wines for all in attendance throughout a Saturday afternoon.

The festival is now 33-years old, one of the largest outdoor wine festivals in California, and features more than 75 of the region’s finest wineries. Along with world class wines, seminars, great food, and local music, guests enjoy Thursday night winemaker dinners and the Friday evening RESERVE event and auction.

More than 140 wineries host individual events over the four days, further accentuating the fun to be had during a celebration weekend in Paso Robles.

HARVEST WINE WEEKENDPaso Robles Wine Country Harvest Wine Weekend celebrates the annual wine grape harvest. Harvest is the busiest time in wine country, when visitors can learn about harvest practices, try new vintages and see what happens when wine country kicks it into high gear.

Every year, on the third weekend in October, Paso Robles wineries hold winemaker dinners, exclusive barrel samples, seminars, barbecues, live music, winery tours and even some grape stomping. Come get a taste of harvest and celebrate the new vintage.

SINCE THE PASO ROBLES AVA WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1983, it remained the largest un-subdivided AVA within California at approximately 614,000 acres (32,000 planted). By contrast, the Napa Valley appellation, which includes 16 AVA’s within its boundaries, is roughly one-third the area at 225,000 acres.

The 11 new AVA’s of Paso Robles, approved in October 2014, demonstrate the diversity of Paso Robles Wine Country and provide information to consumers about what is in the bottle, helping you make a better informed buying decision.

These 11 AVA’s help wineries explain why certain grapes are particularly well suited to certain parts of the appellation, and why some wines show the characteristics they do while other wines, from the same or similar grapes, show differently. Ultimately, the new AVA’s will allow these newly created sub-regions to develop identities for themselves with a clarity impossible in a single large AVA.

Page 42: Paso Robles Visitor's Guide 2015

So you like wine. You drink it. You think about it.

And sometimes you can’t pronounce it. No matter.

Here, there are no rules. Good wine is about

great stories. And great stories are told the day

after. Here, daring and traditional meet, and

independence is ignited. Here, there is no should

or shouldn’t; no do or do not. There’s only try.

Because variety rules and tame is lame.

This is the place to Grow Wild.
