PASS AmeriCorps Program is
what allows us to make a differ-
ence in the lives of our students.
In May and June, our PASS Ameri-
Corps Service Members are de-
ciding the next steps in their jour-
neys. Some are choosing to serve
another year with PASS, some are
moving on to graduate school, and
some are finding jobs in their cho-
sen career field.
We wish all our students and
Service Members the best, and
expect to hear great things from
them in the future.
Have a fantastic summer and we’ll
see you in the new school year!
The 2017-18 school year is coming
to a close and we can’t believe how
fast the year has gone! We are
grateful to the PASS AmeriCorps
Service Members who gave a year
to serve our youth and communi-
ties in San Diego County. Some of
them lived here locally; some of
them were serving a second, third,
or even fourth year with PASS
AmeriCorps; and some of them
took a leap of faith and moved
across country to dedicate a year
of their lives working with our
students. Thank you so much for
your service!
Thank you, also, to all our school
site Points of Contact,
administrators, teachers,
school staff, and other
partner organizations;
your support and commit-
ment to your schools,
communities, and the

Completing 2017-18 with PASS AmeriCorps
In May, the PASS AmeriCorps Pro-
gram hosts an event called “Life After
AmeriCorps.” This event provides
resources and networking opportuni-
ties for our Service Members as they
transition out of their year of service
with PASS AmeriCorps. Presenta-
tions ranged from the Segal Educa-
tion Award to the AmeriCorps
Alumni Association, and more. We
want to
thank all
our pre-
senters
for the
day: cur-
rent PASS
Ameri-
Corps
Members,
Amy DeNinno, Jose Romero, and
Jennifer Hopek for presenting on
Travel and Work Abroad; Dan
Puplava from SDCOE Risk Manage-
ment for presenting on the 3121
Retirement Plan; and Bob Mueller,
Executive Director of SDCOE’s
Student Services and Programs for
presenting on the Science of Happi-
ness. Thank you to our AmeriCorps
Alumni Panel for sharing their expe-
riences and advice: Rosalina Herrera,
Juleane Johnson, and Lizz Kolokow-
sky. A highlight of the day was the
rotating café conversations in which
our current Members were able to
speak with professionals in a field of
interest. Thank you to all the indi-
viduals who came out to speak with
us: Gabriela Baeza Delgado, MPA,

Healthy Girls
don't just eat
cucumbers, they
use them for self
-care too!
San Marcos Middle School
This April, stu-
dents returned
from a refreshing
Spring Break
ready to finish
the school year
strong. The 8th
graders have
been feeling espe-
cially motivated
by the academic
requirements for
promotion, which
many of them
have met! The
girls in Healthy Girls Save
The World have been moti-
vated to also improve their
lives outside the classroom.
This month, the girls learned
about the “F.I.T” principle for
progressively increasing the
intensity of their workouts.
We also discussed strategies
for managing stress, and even
practiced some yoga and
meditation. PASS Ameri-
Corps ended the month with
an Earth Day themed service
project. The students planted
Crusader-colored marigold
flowers in planters made from
recycled water bottles. On the
planters, they painted a few
words describing how they
hope to grow over the next
year. PASS AmeriCorps stu-
dents know that just as you
must tend to a plant daily in
order for it to grow, we must
also tend to our goals daily in
order to accomplish them!

The PASS AmeriCorps Program serves stu-
dents in grades 3 through 12 at 30 school sites
across San Diego County, including campuses
in San Diego, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos,
and Valley Center. Each PASS AmeriCorps
member provides support for 30 students
through individual and group mentoring, aca-
demic support, grades and attendance reviews,
leadership development, guest speakers, ser-
vice learning projects, and parent outreach.
Through their service with PASS, our Ameri-
Corps members are able to create positive
change in our schools and communities.
