CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Standard construction material of the leaves is stainless steel. Standard con-struction material of the vessel is carbon steel or stainless steel.

OPERATING CONDITIONS

The design pressure is 6 bar(g), with a design temperature of 165°C. The maximum allowable pressure drop is 3.5 bar. Other design conditions are on request.

FITTINGS

Standard flanged connections according EN1092-1 and ASME B16.5.

PRESSURE VESSEL CODE AND INSPECTIONS Design code according PED97/23/EC or ASME VIII div. 1, with optional “U”-stamp.

Filtration can be further optimized by adding a liquid sulphur polishing filter.The primary purpose of the liquid sulphur polishing filter is to further reduce the level of impurities such as filter aids, ashes, etc. In addition the polishing filter will act as a guard filter, in case the main filter would malfunction.

Various cartridges can be applied to achieve these results:• ceramic cartridges (back flushable); • sintered metal cartridges (back flushable); • glass fibre cartridges.

The primary purpose of our Twin Filter sulphur filter is to remove contami-nants, such as ashes and bitumen that may clog the catalyst mass. In general, pressure leaf filters (horizontal tank, leaves in vertical position standing on a manifold) are used to clean sulphur through a cake filtration process.

At Twin Filter we understand the difficulties in sulphur burner plants and its filtration processes. The filtration of liquid sulphur is required to remove solids, which might clog the sulphur spray nozzles or accumulate in catalyst beds. After melting, the sulphur needs to be filtered. The removal of solids reduces maintenance costs and improves the operation of the burners.

Sulphuric acid plants (sulphur burning), need to filter the solid sulphur before it’s fed to the burner. The better the filtration process is run, the more solids can be removed from the sulphur. Impurities present in imported sulphur such as ashes, metals, organics can: • plug spray nozzles;• contaminate the convertor tower;• reduce efficiency of catalyst beds.

Solid sulphur is generally stored outdoor and will therefore collect dust and dirt from the surrounding environment. Indoor storage will help to minimize the accumulation of dust but will not prevent it.

OUR ADVANTAGES• By having a retractable shell the filter plates stay stationary at all time, no premature cake dropping during retraction.• No disconnection of sulphur piping during cleaning.• Heated bayonet closure. Solidification of sulphur is avoided in this critical part of the filter. Cleaning will be easier since there is no need for removal of solid sulphur. • Energized cover seal. This ensures a perfect seal and reduces wear of the wedges.• No moving parts (chain or cylinder) above the filter plates when the filter is opened. Possible aggressive vapors coming from the filter leaves can therefore not attack the opening mechanism of the filter tank.• All steam connections on the stationary head of the filter are combined so only one connection is required to steam jacket this part of the filter. • The retractable part of the filter is heated by flexible steam hoses.• Tank retracting, opening and closing of the tank hydraulically operated.• In case of a power failure the tank can be manually retracted.

Twin Filters drive for innovation resulted in the improved leaf nozzle design. Our team of engineers developed a casted and machined version of the nozzle. This design allows a higher drying gas flow, which ensures the filter cake to be dryer and a minimum loss of fluid.

The selected filter mesh depends on the application. The mesh size and mate-rial selection are key factors for your filtration process.
