As I was driving to Ephrata for an appointment this past week, I again thought of him and decided to give him a call (hands free of course). Have you ever had that reoccurring thought of someone and eventually realized that it may be the Holy Spirit who was prompting you to make a connection? That was the conclusion I came to and I am glad I followed the prompting. The story below was an encouraging and needed gift, from the Lord, to me through my friend Greg. Greg is a retired firefighter, ordained pastor, chaplain for the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, leader of men’s ministry (at Northside Community Church in Newberg, OR), a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and most importantly a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the course of our conversation, Greg told me the following story. Greg’s brother Don was going through some serious health challenges. He was in the hospital and not improving. Knowing the potential life threatening conditions that Don was facing and the fact that he was not yet a follower of the Lord Jesus, Greg went to visit him with the intent of sharing again the hope he could find in faith in Jesus. Just as he was going to do so, hospital staff came in to the room making a personal conversation impossible. Greg returned the next day with the same intent. Shortly after they had begun a conversation about what happens to someone after they die, Greg was called out on an emergency to fulfill his chaplaincy duties. What happened next was incredible. Greg told Don that he had to go, but that there was hope for life after death if he would acknowledge Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He told him, “Don, Jesus is ready to forgive you. All you need to do is ask for his forgiveness. I don’t need to be in the room for you to do that. God will hear you and forgive you and give you life.” Greg left to answer the emergency call not knowing what Don would do. Don told Greg a short while later, “You couldn’t have even made it to the highway before I did just what you told me to do. I asked God to forgive me.” What followed next is dramatic and does not always occur when someone

Following a Prompting Several times in the past few weeks my friend Greg has come to my mind. As I was driving to Ephrata for anappointment this past week, I again thought of him and decided to give him a call (hands free of course). Have youever had that reoccurring thought of someone and eventually realized that it may be the Holy Spirit who wasprompting you to make a connection? That was the conclusion I came to and I am glad I followed the prompting. The story below was an encouraging and needed gift, from the Lord, to me through my friend Greg. Greg is a retired firefighter, ordained pastor, chaplain for the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, leader of men’s ministry(at Northside Community Church in Newberg, OR), a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and mostimportantly a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the course of our conversation, Greg told me the followingstory. Greg’s brother Don was going through some serious health challenges. He was in the hospital and notimproving. surrenders their life to God’s control. Don’s vital signs reversed dramatically almost immediately after he prayed. Hisdoctor was going to transfer him to another hospital that day to be treated by a specialist. When the doctorevaluated him, she discharged him that very day! As is the case with any one who accepts God’s forgiveness and begins the journey of following Jesus by faith, maturity does not come overnight. Don is now on a journey “with” Jesus. He is learning to trust and obey his newmaster. That is how it is for any of us who are followers of Jesus; we do not experience immediate perfection, butrather a journey to faith-maturity through confession, repenting, trusting, and obeying. Is there someone who has been coming to your mind on a repeated basis? Possibly the Holy Spirit is prompting youto make a contact. Follow His lead and see what He does with your obedience. There is hope and life in faith in theLord Jesus Christ. That is the gospel! Stay the course! Your brother and friend, shaun
