Training Workshop on LibraryAutomation by Using Koha ILS

PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad and PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a three-day Training Workshop on Library Automation by using Koha ILS Package on October 24-26, 2018, in collaboration with MUET Library & Online Information Centre, at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro. Total 34 Participants from different universities and institutions of the region, attended the training. The Resource Persons of the training were Mr. Syed Habib Akhter Jafri, Principal Librarian, and Mr. Fahad Obaid, Sr. DCA, PASTIC.

In the Closing Session, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, V.C MUET was the Chief Guest and Dr. Muhammad Akram sheikh, D.G PASTIC was the Guest of Honor, who distributed shields to Resource Persons / organizers and certificates to the participants.The workshop was organized under the PASTIC Development Project, “Modernization of PASTIC Library for Effective Resource Sharing”.

Seminar on “Capacity Building of YoungScientists on Communication Science toSociety” at Ayub Agricultural ResearchInstitute Faisalabad (AARI)

A seminar on “Capacity Building of Young Scientists on Communication Science to Society” was organized by PASTIC Sub-centre Faisalabad on October 05, 2018 at the main the Library of AARI. The detail presentation of PASTIC Services through PASTIC web was delivered. by Mr. Muhammad Hasnain. 130 participants, directors and senior scientists participated in the seminar. The resource persons were Ms. Huma Qamar, Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad and Dr. Salma Umbar, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication GCU Faisalabad. They discussed the issues relevant to the topic, and shared their expertise. The Chief Guest, Dr. Abid Mehmood, Director General AARI, appreciated PASTIC activities and efforts. He explained the objectives of this session, and emphasized the role of all forms of media i.e. print, electronic and social media to consider science as their priority for the benefit of the society.

Training workshop on “Make YourResearch Life Easier With Mendeley Tool”held at PASTIC National Centre

PASTIC organized a training workshop on “Make Your Research Life Easier With Mendeley Tool” which was held on October 24-25, 2018 at PASTIC National Centre, Quaid-e-Azam University Campus, Islamabad. The objective of this workshop was to build the capacity of young researchers and to enhance their skills in literature search, citation, sharing and discovering of new research. Dr. Maryam Ibrar was the resource person of the workshop. 30 participants from Quaid-e-Azam University and PIDE participated in this training workshop.

This workshop was part of a series that are regularly organized by PASTIC to train the young researchers on modern ICT tools and techniques useful in research. There are many citation tools available for helping researchers in citation during completion of their thesis. The Mendeley application owes a unique position among these tools being free, smarter and user-friendly. Besides it provides an excellent platform where researcher can search jobs/fellowships, research funds, find research groups, search literature etc. Moreover it is a cross-platform application (Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone) that helps researchers to manage and annotate their scientific paper collections. Citation data from its cloud library can be accessed across multiple devices e.g., Laptop, PC, iphone etc. Mr. Zaheer Nasir, Manager (Trainings) and Mr. Saif Ullah Azim, Principal System Analyst distributed certificates among the participants.

4th SPI Conference on Sustainability inProcess Industry at UET Peshawar

As a regular activity, UET Peshawar in collaboration with PASTIC Peshawar and HEC-Islamabad, organized 4th SPI-2018 International Conference on Sustainability in Process Industry on October 24-25, 2018.

The main objective of the activity is to provide a form that brings together researchers, engineers and scientists from academia and industry in an effort to lay a ground work for future collaborative research and discuss their cutting edge results and innovative ideas on developments in emerging technologies in applied sciences particularly in engineering fields and to suggest the indigenous solutions that can change the current energy scenario, water stress, food security and environmental degradation for sustainable development of society. More than 40 institutes from all over the country participated in this event. During the two days event total 85 activities including plenary lectures, keynotes talks, scientific papers were presented by

scientist from different fields. While, 30 young scholars presented their research in the form of posters. Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, VC UET Peshawar was the Chief Guest of the Closing Session, while Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad, Pro Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar inaugurated the event.

Awareness Seminar on Causes Symptoms & early Treatment of Breast Cancer atAgriculture University Peshawar

The month of October is declared as breast cancer awareness month by WHO, to help and increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment, as well as palliative care of this disease. In this regard PASTIC-Peshawar arranged a one-day awareness lecture for female researchers and faculty members of Agriculture University Peshawar on October 18, 2018. More than 75 female students attended the seminar along with their faculty members from different departments.

Awareness Seminar on CausesSymptom & early Treatment of BreastCancer at Tajo Bibi Girls DegreeCollege District Charsada

PASTIC-Peshawar in collaboration with IRNUM Hospital Peshawar organized second seminar regarding breast cancer awareness at Tajo Bibi Girls Degree College District Charsada on Oct 27, 2018.

Dr. Nabila Javed (Oncologist & Breast Cancer Specialist) from IRNUM Hospital Peshawar was the Resource Person and delivered a comprehensive talk as per title of the seminar. After her talk she practically taught volunteer students that how they can detect the disease on their own at home at early stage. Her session was followed by very interactive question - answer session of almost one hour during which she also rationally convinced the young girls that how they can handle psychological problems of breast cancer patient before & after treatment.
