CHURCH OF ST. AUGUSTINE, Larchmont, New York FEBRUARY 03, 2019

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

NOTE FROM THE PASTOR:

“So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Pastor’s Note

PRAYERS TO GO WITH TODAYS READINGS

The First Reading—Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17—19 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.

Father, you knew us in our mothers’ wombs. Before we were ever born you loved us.

We cling to the pledge you made to Jeremiah, to Jesus

and to each of us. “Whatever you do,

I will be there.”

The Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:31—13:13 But I shall show you a still more excellent way.

We can prophesy,

know all things, speak as an angel,

comprehend mysteries, hand over everything we own,

overturn mountains with our faith— But…if I have no love:

I am nothing at all. Holy Spirit, whatever we do,

let us do it within your Love.

The Gospel Luke 4:21—30 They led him to the brow of the hill to hurl him down headlong. But Jesus passed through the midst of them.

At times you speak words that are so strange, unlike ones we know,

or you tell us to love people in

places that we shudder

to think about. Help us to

master our smugness, throw off our desire for security,

and delight in the new and mysterious. Let us be your prophets with wide open arms.

Anne M. Osdieck 2018.

THE CARDINAL’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP APPEAL

Last year, our parish participated in the Renew + Re-build Campaign which helped our parish raise funds for necessary capital needs. As you may know, the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal was a part of that campaign for one year. Letters for the 2019 Appeal have been sent. Your par-ticipation in the 2019 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Ap-peal helps sustain a variety of programs that reach out to more than 2.8 million Catholics in our archdiocese. The majority of the funds this year will now go directly back to parishes to ensure our parishes can keep providing a faith home to tens of thousands of Catholics. To learn more and to hear from those directly impact-ed by the Cardinal’s Appeal, go to www.cardinalsappeal.org. The goal for St. Augustine for 2019 is $134,500. Please prayerfully consider your participation.

SECOND COLLECTION PETER’S PENCE

Next week, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collec-tion, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppres-sion, and natural disasters. Please be generous. For more information, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

REDIRECT CHRISTMAS Thank you very much for your generosity and support of the St. Augustine ReDirect Christmas

program. A total of $29, 530 was donated to be given to The One Acre Fund and the Fuller Center for Housing, Greater New York. Both organizations are very grateful for your donations and it will help each to continue their good works locally as well as globally.

THANK YOU PACK 33

Many members of Cub Scout Pack 33 collected several car loads of non perishable food for the 2019 Scouting for Food Drive. The non-perishable food was collected from Stop and Shop to St. Augustine to New Rochelle Hope Food Pantry. Special thanks to everyone for organizing and collecting the donations as well as to Stop and Shop, all the Scouts, and those who donated food for once again making this community service effort a resounding suc-cess. Thank you.
