To build and foster a Christian Community that offers

the opportunity to experience God’s unconditional love

and acceptance to all who come into contact with it.

Do you know what catechism means? Of course you do. It comes from the Greek verb katecheo, which means "to teach in matters of faith". The word has had that meaning since the early days of Christianity, but originally -- in the Greek, which is more ancient than Christianity -- the word meant "to make sound in someone's ears". I like that older meaning, be-cause it implies a physical closeness, a personal rela-tionship between the teacher and the student. Teach-ing of faith, in other words, is not just about impart-ing information; it is about having a relationship and sharing lives in Jesus Christ. It is to become his dis-ciples together. Therefore I am not depreciating the efforts of the many catechists of my own formative days, when I say that I don't remember anything that they taught me. What I remember rather is their kind faces, their gentle voices and their caring presence. They did make sound in my ears and their sound reached deep into my life. The Church celebrates Catechetical Sunday this weekend. Our catechists will be blessed and com-missioned at 8:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Masses. All faith formation programs will resume in the next two weeks. Under the firm leadership of our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Teresa Amezcua, our dedi-cated catechists serve more than 300 children and youth, in addition to many adults in various faith for-mation programs. I also want to recognize the minis-ters in baptism and marriage preparation pro-grams. As we pray for our catechists and give thanks for their work this weekend, let us also affirm the role that we all have as baptized Christians: to give wit-ness to the Gospel in our homes, schools and work-place. Through our words and deeds, let's make the sound of God in the heart's ears of all those whom we meet. It is a beautiful responsibility. I pray for all of you. Have a blessed week!

‑‑ Father Anthony

“NOBODY CAN DO EVERYTHING BUT

EVERYBODY CAN DO SOMETHING.”

Thank you God for the precious gift of supportive

friendship.

Enrique Reyes, our former Business Manager paid us a surprise visit this past Satur-day with a monetary dona-tions towards our up coming Christmas Day Dinner. En-rique continues to be a bless-ing for our ministry, he comes by periodically with his arms filled with supplies to fulfill the needs of the guests and a heart over flow-ing with prayers, love, hope and support for our guests and the rest of us. Yes he is one of the band of St. Aga-tha's wingless angels. Amen

Next Sunday, September 23, St. Agatha will pay tribute to the Elder Diamonds. The church family is invited to attend the 8:30AM mass where the Elders will be rec-ognized and celebrated.

Church Elders, 65 years and up, are invited to the hall im-mediately following the mass, where the Church El-der Diamonds (those who have been blessed with 75 plus birthdays) will be hon-ored with a Tea. Come, wear your hat, carry your pocket book, wear your gloves and have on those shoes that match your pocketbook like in days old. Correction, no one will share stories this year. SHH SHH, we have a short program planned in-stead. Below is the form that must be returned in today, only if you are planning to attend. Those who drop in on the day will be seated last and only if space is available.

Please note, we are still serv-ing the Saturday BAG LUNCH TO OUR GUESTS EACH SATURDAY. We are just returning to having the sandwiches being made and ready to be placed in the bag when they come in.

The next open date when we need sandwiches is Saturday September 29, 2018. Our needs are for 160 sandwiches

(no mayo) and chips for 100, dessert will be supplied. Please call the Pastoral Cen-ter office 323-935 8127 if you are able to donate any portion of our needs. Thank you.

Father God, help us to recog-nize the blessing of acts of kindness that we receive each day. We go about our day it seems over looking and tak-ing these acts as a part of the day never acknowledging the blessing. If someone opens a door for you helps you carry something or gives you a compliment these are kind-ness. Thank them for this. Don't keep score if they don't acknowledge the act. Set an example you be the doer/giver do these without ex-pecting something in return or making It the topic of con-versation. Acknowledge someone walking pass you on your way in or out of church or give up your seat in your favorite pew for a visitor this kindness that takes no ef-fort. Each day on your jour-ney this week note and take advantage of the opportunity to do kindness. Try it you

make come to like it especial-ly when you share this and encourage the children in your life to do this each day. Amen
