Bulletin announcements should be into the office by Thursday at noon for publication in that weekend’s bulletin.

Dear Friends in Christ,We are still facing a time in history

that will always be monumental, challenging our courage, straining our finances, endangering our families and our very way of life. When God is placed first in our lives, we will tackle this moment with bravery and purpose. Human beings are instilled with an innate desire to know God. That makes sense when you consider the fact that God is our Father in every sense of the word. My Lord did not want our family to go through the horror of losing a child, no more than my earthly father did! Both cried with us. I know my Lord will never abandon me because I know Him personally and know that He cares deeply about the current state of our world.

You may hear that God is sending retribution for our sins, or that His plan will ‘put people in their place,’ or silence some portion of society and any number of conjectures to answer ‘why.’ Blame is a reflection of bias; good or bad, according to our heart. But to whom do we choose

EDUCATION COMMISSIONChair: Linda Adams

to listen? Our hearts can deal with anything if we are in a personal conversation with God; conversing means expressing your thoughts and listening for His. There is plenty of blame to go around for our current strife and consequences of Covid 19, but that is hindsight, not foresight. Each of us is a Child of God, whether we believe it or not, and until we realize today’s blessings, His grace, and look forward to the blessings of tomorrow, we have jeopardized a personal relationship with God. St John Vianney said, “Grace my children, is a supernatural assistance which leads us to good.”

Embrace the Grace through a child. Children inherently know God. Take a child by the hand and together count your blessings. Do nothing else except acknowledge those gifts, beginning with your own existence. Then, just TRY not to smile. Try to NOT be grateful. I dare you to NOT feel His love and grace. Then, if you feel like sharing, let me know what happens!

Blessings and Prayers to All!

Then a cloud covers everything. In scriptural imagery this clearly speaks of the presence of God the Spirit. From within the cloud comes a voice, which can only be the voice of God Himself: “This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.”

This is now the endorsement of the Father Himself for Jesus. As Jesus asked the Apostles one day, “Who do people say the Son of Man is”, they are now being told to listen very carefully, since Jesus, as Son, speaks with the voice of God.

“Listen to him,” is the confirmation and the endorsement from God our Father of the real identity of Jesus.

Yes, we too need to listen to everything that Jesus says both by his words and his actions.

The Transfiguration is the supreme endorsement of God the Son by God the Father, and it is a special moment of encouragement from God the Holy Spirit that Jesus will carry us through any difficult and/or Blessed days ahead.

Blessings – Dcn Jim

How many times in the Gospel’s has the trinity of the God the Father, God the Son – Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit appeared? If you said two, you would be correct.

The first time is when Jesus was baptized. As Jesus, God the Son, was being baptized, God the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove, and God the Father said – “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3:17)

The second time is when Jesus was transfigured on a mountain where his face shone like the sun and his garments became white as light. Suddenly a bright cloud, God the Holy Spirit, overshadowed him and a voice form the cloud, God the Father said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

This Thursday, 6 August 2020, is The Transfiguration of the Lord. Again, it is when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up to a Mountain where he was transfigured along with having Moses and Elijah appear talking with Jesus.

Note the similarity of the two where God the Father said, “This is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased” in each. During the trans-figuration, however, God the Father went on to say, …listen to him”. What is the meaning with God the Father saying this?

The three apostles: Peter, James, and John, see Jesus as they have never seen him before – in dazzling glory. What else did they see? They saw, on either side of Jesus, Elijah and Moses talking with Jesus. Moses represents the Law while Elijah represents the tradition of all prophets. Between them they are the summation of all God’s revelations to his people and they are endorsing Jesus as the continuation of that tradition. The new covenant!

FUN FROM THE WEBSITE continued from front coverActivity Two: The Social Concerns

Commission, under the leadership of Deacon Jim Hankins, will take the lead in our parish’s growth as a center of mercy and charity. (Mercy and Charity)

Activity Three: The pastor will work with the chairs of the five existing commissions in the devel-opment, chartering, and staffing of a Parish Pastoral Council. (Co-respon-sibility of Laity and Clergy)

Activity Four: The parish will embrace pastoral conversion in the service of the evangelizing mission of the Church, especially in evange-lization of the youth and young families. (Evangelization)

The month of August will be a great opportunity for all of us to think through the implications of the plan, especially how to integrate our existing pastoral and spiritual activities into the timeline of the plan. The commissions will each have an opportunity to reflect on the plan especially in how each commission can bring its resources to these activates. Finally, and most important, we will invite the partic-ipation of all our parishioners in the planned activities as we have a formal event to mark the official promulgation of the plan in October.

I feel so blessed by God at this time to be part of such a holy process. Bishop McKnight’s vision has been a tremendous help to me, particularly during this time of crisis with the pandemic. The entire process has made it easier for me to focus on the essentials of parish life and recommit my ministry to evangelization. I look forward to leading the parish into the future, knowing that the Holy Spirit has already lit the way through the prayerful discernment and willing cooperation of the parishioners of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

Made for More will be held Sept. 15, 7-9:30 p.m. in the Cathedral. Tickets are limited due to social distancing. Purchase tickets at http://corproject.
