fxvÉÇw fâÇwtç Éy XtáàxÜ TÑÜ|Ä EF? ECDJ From the Pastor:

My Friends in the Lord Jesus,

Alleluia! Christ is raised from the dead! Last Sunday we celebrated the joy of Easter. This joyous celebration continues today, and throughout this fifty day holy season. Each day of this season, we disciples proclaim and witness to the triumph of Jesus Christ over sin and death. St. Peter, in his preaching the resurrection of Jesus Christ proclaimed “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept for you in heaven…”

We listen to, and join as well, the witnessing of the Apostles to the resurrection of Jesus. Today in the Gospel according to John, Jesus appeared to the disciples. Although the doors of that place were locked out of fear, Jesus came and stood in their midst. He greeted them with “Peace be with you.” He then showed them his hands and his side, his wounds of crucifixion.

When Jesus came to the disciples as the resurrected Lord, he bestowed on them his Holy Spirit, and empowered them to bear witness to the truth of his resurrection. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he said this, he breathed on them and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit.” It is this same Holy Spirit, bestowed on us in baptism and in confirmation, who gives us courage to live our faith in our day, bearing witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In this season of joyful witnessing, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, instructs us, “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, and inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew…I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come…The Church which ‘goes forth’ is a community of missionary disciples who take the first step, who are involved and supportive, who bear fruit and rejoice…Such a community has an endless desire to show mercy, the fruit of its own experience of the power of the Father’s infinite mercy…An evangelizing community is filled with joy; it knows how to rejoice always…Evangelization with joy becomes beauty in the liturgy, as part of our daily concern to spread goodness.” May the grace of Easter instill in our hearts the desire always to spread goodness.

Second Sunday of Easter

“ Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” (John 20:19)

Are you good at making people feel welcome? When you meet someone new, a new neighbor, a new work colleague, a new parishioner, do you make them feel at home? Many of us can probably do a much better job at this. When we make people feel welcome, we make them feel like they are included instead of being excluded. A simple “hello” and a smile go a long way.
