Spread the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus and His St. Anthony Family. A Holy Community through Holy Communion! Your brother in Jesus, Father John

My Journey to St. Anthony’s I grew up in a loving Catholic family in St. Michael’s in Shrewsbury and St. Peter’s in Kirkwood. My mother grew up in St. John the Baptist in South City and my father grew up on a farm on the Bourbeuse River near Neier/St. Clair in Franklin County. With our Lord’s calling and grace, I made my commitment to serving our Church, where I was or-dained a Deacon 40 years ago and assigned to St. Peters in St. Charles. After ordination to the Priesthood, I served at North American Martyrs in Florissant for 4 years, St. Cecilia in South City for 3 years, St. Margaret of Scotland in Shaw neighborhood in the city for 4 years. I served as Pastor at Holy Trinity in North City just north of downtown for 6 years, at Immaculate Heart of Mary in the far south side of the city for 11 years, and at St. Charles Borromeo for 11 years. After Archbishop Carlson called me to serve St. Anthony’s, I checked your wonderful website and bulletins. Then, I thanked our Lord for sending me here. You are the kind of place and people I was hoping for. I am already enjoying becoming a part of your loving, helpful and prayerful family of God here in High Ridge. Joke of the Week A priest discovers the what the kids really think…

Q. Why do lovers hold hands?

A. They want to make sure their rings don’t fall off, because they paid good money for them.

Q. How do you make love endure?

A. Don’t forget your wife’s name-that will mess up the love. A. Be a good kisser. That might make her forget you did not take out the garbage.

Q. What is the proper age to marry?

A. Eighty-four , because at that age, you don’t have to work anymore and you can spend all your time loving each other.

All Servers, Sacristans, And Eucharistic Ministers

This is just a reminder to servers after all Masses - the pitcher is to be filled, the bowl emptied and the towel folded and all are to be left on the Credence table. A reminder to all Eucharistic Ministers, whether you are scheduled or are subbing, you are to clean the sacred vessels. The servers may not clean the vessels. If only 1 minister cleans the vessels, it takes longer than if 2 or 3 are there. Thank you.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This pro-gram is designed for children ages three through eight (third grade). Children’s Lit-urgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the chil-dren at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an opportunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are escorted out of mass by the program cate-chists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass during the Preparation of Gifts. For more information, contact Kathy Joslin at 636-677-1567 or [email protected].

Children’s Liturgy of the Word We clean Church every Friday after the 8:00 AM Mass. Our Heavenly Dusters are in need of help! If you can offer any time, it would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

SAINT KATERI TEKAKWITHA (1656-1680) July 14 Though the New York State Thruway runs close by the North American Martyrs' Shrine, traffic's roar never pierces the peace enveloping Auries-ville--Ossernon to Native Americans--in the lovely Mohawk Valley, where Kateri Tekakwitha was born barely ten years after the martyrdom of Isaac Jogues and his Jesuit and lay compan-ions. Daughter of a Christian Algonquin mother and non-Christian Mohawk chief, Kateri's par-ents died in a smallpox epidemic widely blamed on the missionaries. Moreover, many Native Americans had experienced exploitation at the hands of "Christian" traders and trappers, fur-ther discrediting the faith Kateri embraced in baptism, then pledged to live even more in-tensely in vowed virginity. Misunderstanding led to harassment, prompting her move to a Chris-tian village farther north along the Saint Law-rence River. Despite this, Kateri's faith remained undaunted, her selfless charity undiminished. Both before and after her death at twenty-four, this young "Lily of the Mohawks" drew countless converts to Christ by the fragrance of her good-ness. Through us, does "the aroma of Christ" (2 Corinthians 2:15), attract others to the beauty of his gospel? --Peter Scagnelli, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
