PATHWAY TO WORK Program Length: Three to six months Current Locations: Engelstad Campus (Las Vegas) North Las Vegas Campus Walters Campus (Henderson) Days and Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Participants report to their assigned Opportunity Village campus and are transported by RTC bus to and from their community training site. Pay: The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) pays the participants $8.25 an hour for a daily maximum of four hours while in attendance at the community training site. Requirements: Dress Code – All participants are required to wear black pants, socks, and black non-skid shoes. Community training site partners provide shirts and name tags for all participants. Participants must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality, and very good interpersonal skills, including the absence of stranger danger or boundary issues. Candidates must be able to remain self-directed and on task for four to five hours a day. They must also be able to stand, walk, bend, push, and lift for a full four hours per day. A valid Nevada ID, Social Security card, and Health Card are mandatory. Pathway to Work is a community integrated “on-the-job” training program that is conducted at a partner’s job site with additional classroom instruction at an Opportunity Village campus. While training at the community partner’s job site, each Pathway to Work participant is provided with four hours of individualized instruction, job coaching, and work experience involving three to five different job tasks. In-depth campus-based instruction facilitated by Opportunity Village includes, but is not limited to, viewing training videos, participation in employer workplace expectations and task performance discussions, and the practice of specific individual skills/techniques used on the job. In addition, participants have access to Opportunity Village job developers who assist with developing a resume, applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, and job placement and support during the new hire process and beyond. Pathway to Work is made possible through a collaboration between Opportunity Village, the Desert Regional Center, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, and our community business partners. FAQ:What is the cost to the community partner?Partners provide shirts and name badges for participants. Opportunity Village provides the staff who accompany participants to and from the job site and facilitates participant transportation. BVR provides for the wages paid to participants.

How many participants will the community partner receive?3-5 Participants will be at the partner’s job site for four hours daily, Monday-Friday. Partners will receive a total of 12-20 man hours daily.

How will we work with the community partner’s existing team of employees?We will be working side-by-side with the partner’s job site employees, with the constant support provided by an Opportunity Village staff.

What are the positions or departments we are able to staff?Our participants are eager to try new tasks, with specific guidance and instructional support provided by OpportunityVillage staff to support a partner’s departmental needs.

Will there be any reduction to the community partner’s staff?No, our intentions are to work with and within the partner’s existing team of employees.

Can a community partner hire a qualified Pathway to Work participant?Yes.Thoughthereisnoobligationtodoso,manypartnersfindtheregularinvolvementofourparticipantsandthe ability to review performance outcomes as an opportunity to connect with a valuable potential employee.

How does a community partner benefit?A Pathway to Work partnership not only provides an enriching experience for our Pathway to Work participants, it also enhances the partner’s job site culture, productivity, and employee satisfaction.

Job Placement: Opportunity Village job developers will work with the Pathway to Work Coordinator to identify each participant’sstrengthsandthejobtypethatbestfits the participant’s skill sets. Job developers assist participants with creating or updating a resume, fillingoutjobapplications,andcoordinatinginterview appointments. Job developers accompany the participant to interview(s) and provide them with support during the new hire process and after-hire coaching.

Goal: The purpose of Pathway to Work is to provide each participant with real on-the-job training in an integrated community setting, with the ultimate outcome being placement in competitive employment.
