Melbourne Campus

Located just 14km from Melbourne’s city centre, the University’s Melbourne Campus is its largest. It covers 267 hectares of stunning parkland and waterways and includes all the amenities you’d expect to find in the city.

If you have a goal to achieve an internationally recognised bachelor degree, the La Trobe Melbourne pathway to La Trobe University ensures that you will receive extensive academic and personal support to help you succeed.

The subjects you will study are equivalent to first year of a bachelor degree at La Trobe University. Once you have successfully completed the diploma and met all requirements, you will move into second year of a degree of your choice.

• Three-trimestersystem: we offer three intakes each year, in February, June and October. This means you can begin your studies at a time that is convenient for you, especially if you are considering fast-tracking your course.

• Personalisedattention: our class sizes are smaller than at university. This means you will receive a high level of individual attention from your lecturers and tutors.

• High-qualityuniversitycurriculum: our diploma programs are quality assured by La Trobe University and are equivalent to the first year of a university degree program, but with increased academic contact. Our students generally perform better than other students in their degree at the university.

• Progressiontouniversity: after successfully completing the diploma program at La Trobe Melbourne, you will be offered a place in a corresponding bachelor degree program at La Trobe University. Additional course requirements may apply.

How will I learn?You will study eight subjects in your chosen diploma, which includes four hours of class contact per subject each week. The standard duration for a diploma is three trimesters (12 months). Students enrol in three subjects in the first trimester, three in the second trimester and two in the third trimester.

It is also possible to fast-track your studies to complete the diploma in two trimesters (8 months) by studying four subjects in each of the first two trimesters.

Each trimester includes 12 weeks of teaching and final exams. Assessment for all subjects includes tests, assignments and case study analysis.

Our coursesIf you successfully complete a diploma program and meet other additional entry requirements, you will receive credit equivalent to the first year of a corresponding degree at La Trobe University. You will then be eligible for direct entry to the second year of that degree. Select from the following areas of study:

Progression to La Trobe UniversityTo be eligible to enter the second year of your degree, you must receive at least a pass (50 percent) in each subject, or higher if otherwise stated. Some courses have strict quotas and higher weighted average mark requirements.

OrientationDuring orientation you will finalise your enrolment and receive important information about your program, meet La Trobe Melbourne staff and students, be introduced to the range of available services and facilities, and attend information sessions. There will also be a chance to join one of the many clubs and societies on campus and find out about other social activities available to students.

If you are interested in living organisms and how they function, this diploma offers an alternative pathway to a science degree at La Trobe University.
