Patient safety is the single biggest issue for the NHS and independent health organisations. It is too important to be just talked about; it is time for more action. It is too important to be an event for just the privileged few. Patient First offers you the opportunity to engage with all the key stakeholders in decision-making around investments that will deliver better patient outcomes.

Last year’s final Francis report into Mid Staffordshire challenged the NHS with 290 recommendations. It was followed by six independent reviews commissioned by the government – including investigation of 14 hospital trusts with high mortality rates by NHS England Medical Director Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, a focus on how to improve safety by Professor Don Berwick and a report into hospital complaints systems. In all, the government accepted 281 of the Francis recommendations. There is work to be done.

Patient First has been developed to play a major role in connecting managerial, medical and clinical leaders with those that can provide both advice as well as tangible solutions to support the delivery of better patient care.

Make a change. Patient First

Patient First will be co-located with our established Acute & General Medicine CPD event, which attracted over 3,000 hospital doctors in 2013. Together, the events will provide an audience of over 4,500 senior management, doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers and commissioners.

We commissioned a study among more than 500 people working across the NHS, supporting organisations and industry. Respondents overwhelmingly confirmed the need for a new type of multi-disciplinary event that provides practical advice and strategies to improve patient safety.

NHS managers driving new investment in patient safety

• Three quarters (77%) of respondents felt patient safety was not a priority in their organisation – over half (58%) felt their organisation needs more focus on patient safety.

• The majority has no confidence in their Boards to make quality improvements – just 30% felt their board competently used data and other intelligence to pursue quality improvements.

• Almost half (49%) had either rarely or never been given access to data which measures quality in their part of the organisation that was accurate, insightful and easy to use.

• A majority felt there was a closed culture in their part of the NHS – just 23% felt there is a culture of openness across the whole of their organisation.

• Morale is low – 35% felt their organisation never or hardly ever pays sufficient attention to employee engagement.

• The majority feel low morale impacts on patient safety – only one-third felt managerial and clinical leadership combined supported the right culture for patient safety to flourish.

Now the good news...

• 90% expect their trust to invest in patient safety over the next 12 months – and 91% of our target audience are involved in identifying areas for investment and specifying needs.

We know that

• in an average month, 92% have at most only one meeting with a supplier or potential supplier.

• 85% said they would attend this new event.

So, Patient First will give you invaluable face to face time!

Patient First – meeting a critical need

Patient safety is such an important topic, so why should quality content be reserved for the fortunate few with budget to spare? It shouldn’t.

So, Patient First is distributing educational grants to healthcare providers and commissioners for a 100% subsidy for all delegate fees (saving each delegate £399 + VAT). Removing the barriers to attendance gives both the ‘thinkers’ and the ‘doers’ across healthcare the opportunity to attend this world-class event, learn from the experts, network with colleagues, share best practice and make important investment and spending decisions with market-leading providers and suppliers, like you.

Patient First will also be backed by a multi-faceted marketing campaign, including direct mail, digital marketing, trade advertising and telemarketing. In addition, there will be a range of specific communications delivered via our professional and trade association partners. We plan to put safety in numbers.

Why Patient First is unlike any other eventPatient First uses CloserStill’s proven, multiple award-winning format, which places the exhibition and conference in a single location – allowing a seamless link between the learning and the practical solutions to give a better delegate and supplier experience.

The education programme will be structured in a way that sessions are staggered through the streams, ensuring a constant flow of traffic across the show floor throughout both days of the event.

Around 100 exhibitors will enjoy face to face time not only with the policy makers, but also the managers responsible for implementing the change.

“This is a very productive show. The regular breaks between the sessions mean that the stand is never quiet for long. We came here to raise awareness of our brand and to sell, and it’s been really worthwhile. We’ve met lots of new customers here.”Raj Chima, Account Manager, Chiesi - Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2013 exhibitor

“There’s more time between the sessions so delegates can visit the stands. We’ve seen a lot of people over two days; it would take months to contact that amount of people over the phone. This show is a good place to generate warm leads, which makes it easier to generate business.”Saghir Ahmed, NHS Business Partner, The Co-operative Pharmacy - CPC 2013 exhibitor
