    1. All exhibits are staged at the sole risk of the exhibitor.2. A class may be cancelled / amalgamated if there are insufficient entries.3. The Judge may withhold prizes where there are insufficient entries.4. The Judge’s decision is final.5. No persons shall be with the judges whilst they are executing their duties other than a steward.6. By completing an entry form, you must agree to the rules, regulations and conditions of the Society.7. Each exhibit must be listed on the correct entry form provided.8. The completed form must reach the Show Secretary by Friday 4th August 2017, accompanied by the correct fee.9. Any objection must be made in writing and handed to the Chief Steward before 2.00pm on Show Day.10. The entry numbers to be attached to each exhibit will be provided in the Arts and Crafts marquee when staging

    entries. 11. Each exhibit is to be the home made and original work of the exhibitor and must be entered in his/her name. 12. No exhibit that has previously won a prize at the Mid-Somerset Show can be entered.13. An exhibit may be entered in only one class.14. No advertising matter can be staged with any exhibit.15. An exhibit can only be handled by show officials between the times of staging and its time of removal.16. Disposal of any exhibits remaining after 6.00pm will be at the discretion of the Chief Steward.17. Prize winners must collect their prize vouchers from the Chief Steward to redeem their prize money from the

    Secretary’s Office on show day. 18. Any prize money not collected on show day will be forfeited.19. The exhibitor ticket for each entry must be shown to the Steward when an exhibit is removed.20. The Children’s Section is open to children aged 16 years and under on the day of the show, except where

    otherwise stated. 21. Please note that exhibitors’ names will appear in the catalogue unless the Show Secretary is informed otherwise.22. Cups and trophies will remain the property of Mid-Somerset Show Committee.23. The cost of engraving trophies is the responsibility of the recipient.24. The Committee shall have the power to decide all matters not provided for in these rules and on all matters

    on which there is any question. Their decision is final.25. All exhibits to be set up in the marquee at the Mid-Somerset Showground between 8.00am - 12.00pm on Saturday

    The Dorothy Whittock Challenge Cup will be awarded to the exhibitor with most points in the photography classes.

    Special rules:Each photograph must have been taken by the exhibitor and within the last year.Each photograph must not have been entered before at the Mid-Somerset Show.Each exhibitor cannot enter more than 3 photographs in each class.All categories can be colour/black and white, film or digital, not exceeding 7 x 51/2 mounted on a piece of card notexceeding A4.

    Class 597 Wildlife in Winter - whether its snowy or wet and windy our wildlife have to live through the winter.Class 598 Harvesting - the harvest is an important time of year for the farming community: busy and full of colour.Class 599 Cloudy Sky - our skies can look stunning whether it’s a cumulus or a nimbostratus, point your camera upwards.Class 600 The Mid-Somerset Show 2016 - what’s your favourite part of the show?     Children may enter all classes at the show but only the children’s section will be judged taking age into account.

    Class 585 Word Art - a piece of artwork inspired by the word Summer. It can be written, painted, drawn, printed,stitched, knitted, photographed or made from clay. Not to exceed 20 cm x 30 cm. This will be judged byan art judge and a handicraft judge.

    Class 644 The Mid-Somerset RAFA Class: ‘Flight’ - A painting in any media or a photograph - open to air cadets in the Mid-Somerset RAFA Branches ofGlastonbury & Street, Wells, Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary. FREE ENTRY

    Class 645 The Harvey Family Cup for the encouragement of written English. Short story competition. 500 Words.2017 Subject: Every cloud has a silver liningOpen to young people between the ages of 11 - 16. Entries to be delivered to the Secretary by 30th June 2017, by hand, post or e-mail.Judging will be by a qualified teacher of English, an author, an editor or an individual involved in the arts.Judging criteria will include writing style, appropriate use of grammar and punctuation, spelling andoverall presentation.Submissions may be typed or hand-written on plain white A4 paper or card and should be double spaced.The cup will be awarded annually together with a first prize of £25.00. Certificates will be awarded to thirdplace and the three winning pieces will be displayed on the Society's website.

    RECIPES TO BE USEDClass 553 - Family Fruit CakeIngredients:175 g butter or margarine140g sugar3 large eggs225g SR flourPinch mixed spice175g mixed fruitA little milk if required.

    Method:1. Turn on oven 160 C fan, 170 C, 325 F or Reg. 3.2. Line a 18cm/7 inch tin with greaseproof paper.3. Cream butter/margarine with the sugar until light and fluffy.4. Beat in the eggs.5. Fold in the sifted flour and spice.6. Add the mixed fruit and fold in. Add the milk if needed.7. Put mixture in prepared tin, level off.8. Place in oven for approx 1 hour until a skewer comes out clean.9. Cool on a wire rack.10. Remove from tin and remove paper.

    Class 554 - Victoria sandwich Ingredients: 3 eggs and equivalent weight of flour, fat and sugarfilling to be raspberry jam finished with caster sugar.

    Class 560 - Cheese BiscuitsIngredients:100g/4oz plain flour75g/3oz butter at room temperature50g/2oz mature grated cheddar cheese1 extra large egg yolkFinely grated parmesan cheese for sprinkling.Method:

    1. Lightly grease two baking trays.2. Pre heat oven to 190 C, 180 C fan, 375 F, or Reg. 5.3. Rub butter into flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.4. Stir in grated cheddar cheese.5. Reserve a little egg yolk for glazing, and stir in remaining egg yolk.6. Bring mixture together and wrap in cling film and chill for 30 minutes.7. Roll out dough to thickness of about 5mm (1/4 “), and cut into biscuits using a maximum 5cm (2”) round cutter.8. Place on baking trays, brush with remaining egg yolk and sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese. 9. Bake for 10 - 15 minutes until golden.10. Lift off trays and allow to cool on wire rack.

    Class 565 -Bread Pudding – Men OnlyIngredients:225g /8oz stale/left over bread (white or brown) crusts removed.275ml/10fl oz milk50g/2oz melted butter75g/3oz brown sugar2 level teaspoons mixed spice1 egg (beaten)175g/6oz mixed dried fruitGrated rind of half an orangeFreshly grated nutmeg.Method:

    1. Turn on oven 180 C, 170 C Fan, 375 F or Reg. 42. Butter a 1 litre /2 pint baking dish (could be a little larger).3. Break the bread into pieces and put in a bowl.4. Pour over the milk, give the mixture a good stir then leave for about 30 minutes so the bread becomes

    soaked with the milk.5. Add the melted butter, the sugar, the mixed spice and beaten egg.6. Using a fork beat the mixture well, making sure no lumps remain, then stir in the mixed fruit and orange rind.7. Spread the mixture in the prepared dish and sprinkle over some freshly grated nutmeg.8. Bake in the oven for about 1 hour.
