Pattern for Coastal Wall Hanging

Materials: Patons Smoothie DK yarn,1 ball blue mix, 1 ball white, 1 ball black, 1 ball red and 1 ball slate, 3.50mm

yarn, this will be carried up the side to be joined again in next blue mix row)

be carried up the side to be joined again in next white row)

Beach Hut door:

With red make a slip knot leaving a 40cm tail, ch6

Row 1 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end (5 sts), ch1, turn

Row 2 1dc in next st and each st to end, ch1, turn

Row 3-13 rep row 2

Row 14 1dc in next st and each st to end, fasten off

Sew beach hut door to the beach hut with the 40cm length of yarn, use photo as a guide

Sailboat:

Follow instructions for lighthouse until end of row 4 using red in row 4

Row 5 1dc in same st as tch, 1dc in next 7 sts, 2dc in final st, ch1, turn

Row 6 1dc in same st as tch, 1dc in next 9 sts, 2dc in final st, ch1, turn

Row 7 1dc in same st as tch, 1dc in next 11 sts, 2dc in final st, ch1, turn

Sail:

Wing 1:

Row 1 ss into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in next 3 ch, 1tr in next 3 ch, 3tr in next ch, 1tr in next 4 ch, ss to 2nd st up on

original circle, ch1, turn

Row 2 continue back along top of row 1, 1dc in next 5 sts, 3dc in

next st, 1dc in next 7 sts, ss in final st, fasten off, turn

Head and Beak:

Row 1 join yarn into next st up on circle, ch1 (counts as 1st st)

1dc in next 3 sts, ch1, turn

Row 2 1dc in next st, dc2tog, ch1, turn

Row 3 dc2tog, fasten off

Row 4 join grey into centre of row 3, ch2, ss into same st at base

of ch, fasten off

Wing 2:

Join with white into 4th st along from head, ch13

Rep instructions for wing 1 ensuring at end of row 1 ss into 2nd st

up is towards the seagull head

Tail:

Join with white into 3rd st along from bottom of wing 2, ch4, 1dtr into same st, 2tr in next st, 2dtr in next st, fasten off

To Complete:

Weave in all ends. It is essential that all the pieces are

blocked to help achieve a flat and correct shape. Make

the pieces wet, gently roll them dry in a towel and then

pin out leaving for at least 24 hours.

Use craft wire to help keep the pieces flat and keep

their shape once hanging. Thread the craft wire onto

your yarn needle and pull though the back of the

pieces as shown. This is particularly important for the lighthouse and seagull.

Insert drawing pins to the back of your driftwood. This is where the motifs will be attached to.

Each motif is attached to the driftwood with a length of chains. The following lengths were used for the wall hanging as

photographed but you may want to make more or less chains depending on the shape of your wood.

Lighthouse: join with black to centre of top row, ch10, fasten off

Fish: join with slate to top of fish in 4th st along from tail, ch20, fasten off

Beach Hut: join with red to centre top of roof edging, ch10, fasten off

Sailboat: join with blue mix to top of mast, ch15, fasten off

Seagull: join with white to st between wing 2 and head, ch15, fasten off

Attach a picture hook to the rear of the driftwood ready for hanging on the wall…Enjoy!
