Violence Against Women & Community Planning

CHALLENGES• Partnership Fatigue• Lack of knowledge / expertise on VAW within agencies – broadening the

definition• Capacity to engage• Connecting the Centre and city wide providers with locality structures• Development agenda vs enforcement agenda• Achieving consistency

OPPORTUNITIES• Coordinated, multi agency approach to implementation of strategic

commitments to tackle Violence Against Women through SOA• Wider set of services & engaged with VAW Agenda • Use of existing structures minimises partnership fatigue• Reach of VAW provision extended

Violence Against Women & Community Planning Practical Examples:

• Locality Planning and Development: – SW & West Localities hosted multi agency development sessions to identify VAW priorities

Events organised through VAWIGS and funded through CPP Development Funds– Priorities from development sessions incorporated into CPP’s Safe Plans– VAWIG’s report to Safe Theme Groups and the GVAWP

• Multi Agency VAW Training:– In the North locality over 200 staff from RSL’s, CHCP’s voluntary sector, Police, Culture and

Sport Glasgow and Glasgow Community and Safety Services received basic awareness raising training. Organised by the North VAWIG, delivered by Greater Glasgow Training Consortium / CHCP and funded through the Fairer Scotland Fund

– Follow on evaluations using GGTC materials now about to be undertaken– Other localities adopting this model

• Resource Development:– Directory / Toolkit – managed by VAWIG, funded by FSF– Translation of resource materials into community languages, managed by RCC, funded

through FSF

• Campaigns:– 16 Days programmes funded by FSF through Safe and Vibrant Theme budgets– International Women’s Day
