Following the hugely successful and popular Plaza Suite, Rough Magic are back at Pavilion Theatre with the delicious comedy Travesties by Tom Stoppard.

Best-known as the author of the Oscar-winning film Shakespeare in Love and the plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and Arcadia, Stoppard is at his “diabolically clever” best in this absurdly funny masterpiece featuring James Joyce, Vladimir Lenin and artist Tristan Tzara.

Zurich 1917: exiles take refuge from the Great War in neutral Switzerland. Joyce is writing Ulysses and Lenin is planning a revolution. Stoppard creates a brilliant fantasia around the real-life incident of Joyce deciding to stage Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

The culmination these workshops will feature a dance showcase at Pavilion Theatre and projected footage documenting their progress during the month of June.

Karen brings to you in narration and song the engrossing life story of the great legend Nina Simone, from her struggle against racism and exile from her homeland to her flamboyant and troubled relationships and her poignant later years.

This July, for the first time since its release in 2000, David Kitt will be performing his debut album Small Moments in its entirety at Pavilion Theatre. This intimate collection of home recordings received rave reviews and won a legion of admirers including David Bowie, Graham Linehan and the great Bob Harris (Old Grey Whistle Test).

Kitt will be accompanied by his brother Robbie who memorably featured on the album aged just 10 at the time, but who is now an accomplished musician in his own right. Set in Windsor in the 15th century, Verdi’s final opera Falstaff is a three act lyric comedy based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV.

Equal parts orchestral virtuosity and riotously paced comedy, the opera is a perfect fusion of renaissance realism and light-hearted fantasy.
