1st Quarter Academic HighlightsKatherine Ruwe (St. Antoninus)

has been named a National

Merit Semifinalist. She is one of

1,600 high school students in

the country with this honor. She

will continue in the competition

for a chance to be awarded a

scholarship worth more than $32

million offered next spring.

Six seniors (pictured above) have been named Commended Students in the 2013

National Merit Program: Christina Schmidt (St. Antoninus), Kelsey Watts (St.

Jude) Jenna Zappasodi (St. Antoninus), Sarah Bailey (Our Lady of Lourdes), Ha-

ley Baker (St. Catharine), and Ellen Bley (St. Jude).

Mercy’s Yearbook Editors took the top prize at Yearbook Camp for Best Overall

Theme Package. Editors are Gabby Discepoli (John Paul II), Caroline Meyer (St.

Martin) and Maggie Walsh (Our Lady of the Visitation).

Over 25 Mercy artists received awards in the following art competitions: Harvest

Home Fair, Xavier University Junior and Senior Juried Art Exhibition, Hamilton

Country Library Photo Contest and Westwood Photo Contest.

Fall Sports Wrap-UpJunior Emma Hatch (St. Jude) qualified for the State

Cross Country Meet for the second year in a row. Emma credits her entire team for pushing her to run her best. “The team is the most important part of cross country,” said Emma. “We all support each other and that’s what makes it so great. Every season their support is what pushes me. I could never have made it to State without my team there with me.”

Junior Elizabeth Staley (Our Lady of the Visitation) qualified to the Tennis District Tournament and broke the school record for most singles victories. Sophomore Emily House (Our Lady of the Visitation) represented Mercy as an individual at the Golf District Tournament.

Seniors Kelley Wiegman – basketball (Our Lady of the Visitation), Rachael Hester – swimming (St. Michael’s), and Katie Cosker - vol-leyball (St. Martin), signed Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Future Bobcat Events

Mercy’s Future Bobcat events, such as Volleyball Spirit Games, Theatre Night (a

special preview viewing of Mercy’s 2012 Fall musical, Guys & Dolls) and Christmas

on Campus, an 8th grade sleepover extravaganza have drawn hundreds of grade

school girls to Be Inpsired by the magic of Mercy. Check out upcoming events to

Canned Good ChallengeMother of Mercy students had a record

canned good drive just before the Thanksgiv-

ing holiday. Classes, groups and sports teams

challenged one another to see who collect the

most. Overall, the entire school collected over

5,000 items to donate to the Mercy Neighbor-

hood Food Pantry in Walnut Hills.

Band Marches ForwardPride of La Salle Marching Band won the Bishop Fenwick Invitational and the

Mid States Associate Championships and placed 4th in the nation in Class A at

the Bands of America National Competition. Mercy has 11 students in La Salle’s

Band.

Eighth graders having a blast at Christmas on Campus on Friday, December 7.
