PC Case

Corsair CC-9011075-WW Carbide Series 100R Windowed Mid-Tower ATX Computer Case – Black £42.71

I have chosen to use this case as it is subtle and low cost, however it is a good quality case from a good brand. It is black so it won’t look childish in a working office or in front of clients.

Motherboard

Mod 1150 ASUS Z97 Maximus VII Hero ATX Motherboard

£139.99

This motherboard is from a respected manufacturer and is high quality. It will fit inside the case and has enough ports for all the components, and some more if they need to be added in the future.

Graphics Card

MSI NVIDIA GTX 970 Gaming Twin Frozr HDMI DVI-I DP Graphics Card (4GB, PCI Express, DDR5, 256 Bit)

£267.25

Some may see this graphics card as overkill, however I chose it because the budget is quite large, and it will take on any task and is quite futureproof.

Processor

Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150)

£257.19

Once again some may see this as overkill but it’ll be able to handle any task you throw at it and still be futureproof.

HDD

WD - 2TB Desktop SATA Hard Drive - OEM - Green

£59.98

One of the requirements is a 2 terabyte hard drive, and this is exactly that at a good price.

SSD

Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive

£68.68

This SSD is not needed, however it will make the computer run a lot faster and it’ll give some extra storage just in case.

Optical Drive

Asus DVD-RW Bulk Drive (DRW-24F1ST, S-ATA, DVDR: 24x, CD-R: 48x, E-Green, Disc Encryption II)

£16.06

Optical drives aren’t really used a lot nowadays, so I just opted for a good quality cheap one.

RAM

2X -HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit – White

£70.14

RAM is essential to the speed and performance of a computer, so I have chosen to give this computer 16gb of RAM. This should be more than enough for the computer to run lots of tasks and be competent in video and picture editing.

Power Supply Unit

EVGA 500W PC Power Supply

£33.54

Using an online Power Supply Calculator, I added all the parts together and the total wattage needed is about 425W. PSU’s should always be a higher wattage than what is actually needed so it can provide enough power for each component.

Peripherals

Keyboard+mouse- Logitech Desktop MK120 - UK layout-£12.45

HCL 591-5239 Visually Impaired Person Keyboard for Special Needs, Blind | XL Large Hi-Visibility Black/White Upper-case Keys

Monitors-2X BenQ GL2250HM LED TN Panel 21.5 -inch W Multimedia Monitor 1920 x 1080, DVI, HDMI, Speakers, 12M:1, 2 ms GTG & 1000:1 - Glossy Black-£179.86

The keyboard and mouse only need to be cheap, however I chose some from Logitech as they are a respected brand.

I chose these monitors as having two monitors is always useful as you can have multiple programs open over the two screens. This monitor is produced by BenQ and is full 1080p, a 4K monitor isn’t needed at the moment and 4K monitors are overpriced.

I also chose to have this second keyboard as one of the team is partially blind, so this keyboard is designed for the partially blind with bigger keys so the letters can be seen more easily. http://www.microsoft.com/enable/guides/vision.aspx This link also shows many Windows features that can help with the visually impaired.

Software

Microsoft Windows 10- £99.99

AVG Anti-virus-£29.99

Windows Movie Maker

I have chosen to use Windows 10 as it is the latest version of Windows, meaning all new, and older software is going to work on it, and it is being updated all the time.

I have also chosen AVG anti-virus as it has one of the best reputations out of all the security software available.

Windows Movie Maker is simple and intuitive to use, and its free as it comes with any Windows software.

Cooling

Corsair Air Series AF120-LED 120mm Quiet Edition High Airflow LED Fan - Red (Dual Pack)

£16.99

I chose these fans as they are good value- you get two as it’s a dual pack, and Corsair are known to produce high quality products.

Cards

Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 Sound Card (PCI Express 1.0, Smart Volume Normalizer, Xear 3D Virtual Speaker Shifter, Magic Voice)- £22.99

TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter-£24.99

I chose this sound card because it isn’t a vital part of the system, however it will be useful for the sound in the video logging. It is also a cheap sound card but its from Asus, a good brand and it has good reviews.

I chose this network card so that its possible for the system to connect to the wireless network. TP-LINK is arguably the market leader of network cards however this card was cheap, but it had 4/5 stars on the Amazon reviews.

I also chose to use Windows Movie Maker as it comes free with Windows, and it has lots of features but its easy to use.

Requirements

The system has 2 USB 3.0 ports on the front of the computer and more on the back of the computer so data can be transferred or backed up to an external hard drive.

There is 2 terabytes of hard drive storage available, and an extra 250gb of SSD storage for storing the operating system and any other programs that are used regularly or need to be as fast as possible.

For the visually-impaired team member, I have added a keyboard that is designed for the visually impaired, and have added a link in this presentation to all the accessibility features Windows has to offer, such as increasing the size of the text on screen, or having the computer read out the

Why did I choose this system?

I chose this system because its under the budget with over £200 to spare, yet still provides plenty of performance and is certain to last for a long time.

This system is futureproof. It has a very powerful Intel processor, and a very powerful graphics card. Both of these should help the system to last for a long time and be able to run newer programs. The department are interested in making video logs, so they need a computer where they can edit the videos before they upload them. This computer will be able to do that, with ease.

Another reason why I chose this system, is that it can store

many different programs. Also, it’ll be very fast and be able to have multiple tabs and programs open at one time, which will be useful for the social media side of things.

Another computer that could be used is the Primal GT5 computer from Dino PC. The Primal GT5 costs a bit less at £1199, it’s pre-built for you. In many ways, the system I have configured is better. It has more SSD and HDD storage, more RAM and a better processor, with an extra monitor. One good thing about the pre-built computer is that if something was to go wrong, you could return it under warranty, as it comes with a 3 year warranty.

For the remaining £200, one thing you could do is buy an extra monitor. Doing this would have many advantages, first of all it would be another screen so you could have more programs open at once. You could also use it to have the bigger text on for the visually impaired member of the team. However, I didn’t feel that I needed to spend the remaining £200 as the improvements would be minor for the extra cost.
