PCAD 101

• Content analysis of text using scales developed by Gottschalk and Gleser

• Earlier done by human coders

• Scales measure states of neuropsychiatric interest such as:

» Anxiety» Hostility» Cognitive impairment» (…more later)

Getting started

• text file’s extension = .SAM

• store your file in the PCAD folder, so you don’t have to maneuver through not so user-friendly interface

• Open program -> select file

• You will have 2 choices:– Guide me or No Thanks– Guide me will give you scores on all scales– No Thanks option is more independent – you

can choose which scales you like

• Open desired file

• Select an output option• You can select all three at once

• If you choose to open another file, your current scores will be erased from the screen

• If you choose YES, you will exit PCAD• Choose NO, to view the scores

• You can access all of the scored categories through the view tab• If you minimize a window it will temporarily disappear from the screen, until it is selected again through the view tab

• In PCAD folder, a spreadsheet file with an extension .CSV will be saved

•To open new file, you can select desired scales

• When a new file is opened manually, it is in unguided mode
