Learn how different types of questions posed by the teacher and by the students can be used to assess learning, advance learning, build deeper understanding, and strengthen communication to meet the demand of the PA Core Standards. Building Your Professional Community (Domains 1 & 4) February 3 - March 14, 2014 The utilization of social networking and learning communities, the focus of this program, will empower participants to increase student achievement through the transformational power of these tools. Social networking and media gives educators the ability to make digital integration a holistic component of their instructional and personal learning methods. This course will provide these resources, connections, and the learning needed to increase digital literacy in our schools, empower educators to comfortably connect with technology within their current positions, and build curriculum that inherently supports differentiated instruction, process, and product. Developing as an Online Teacher (Domains 1, 2, 3 & 4) February 10 - March 21, 2014 This foundational course will help teachers understand online teaching and learning in K-12 schools and the key components for successful online teaching based on the Inacol National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. Including classroom management and feedback strategies, teachers will discuss quality online teaching standards and practice online organization and feedback skills. Google Resources for the Classroom (Domains 1 & 4) March 17- April 25, 2014 This course explores the basic functions of your account with Google Drive, Google Plus, Hangouts, and Google Chrome extensions such as “Add to Drive,” “Google Calendar,” and “PicMonkey” to optimize your Internet browsing and provide your students with the Web 2.0 learning experience they need. Google is more than just a search engine as it continues to evolve and prove itself as an effective tool for personal use, as well as in the classroom. Learning Objects for Student Engagement in the PA Core (Domains 1, 2, & 3) April 21 - May 30, 2014 In this project-based, online course, teachers will learn about tools and resources to help them build online learning objects to use as lesson content for online or blended learning courses. Through tutorials, peer review, and instructor feedback, teachers will complete the course by creating their own module of content that they can use in an online or blended environment. Assessment for the PA Core (Domains 1 & 3) May 26 - June 30, 2014 This course will provide educators with a rationale for standards-aligned assessment and an understanding of the design and analysis of assessments that can be employed in a standards-based classroom. Summative, formative, benchmark, and diagnostic assessment will be explored and analyzed. Participants will have the opportunity to develop standards-aligned assessments for use in their classrooms. The course offers opportunities to apply the assessment concepts with action planning exercises. Collaboration in the Digital Classroom (Domains 1, 2, & 3) March 5 - April 16, 2014 This online course offers an in-depth look at collaboration with a focus on online collaborative tools. In this course, teachers will see how collaboration helps students develop 21st Century thinking skills, deepen content understanding, and prepare them for the global world. Teachers learn how to plan and manage collaboration activities that integrate online collaborative tools which are an integral part of our digital, globally connected workplaces. Thinking Critically with Data (Domains 1 & 4) April 23 - June 4, 2014 This online course examines critical thinking with a focus on data analysis in our information-rich world. Teachers will explore practical skills and strategies to draw on when teaching students to think critically about the information around them. Teachers will understand how to design student projects and assessments that address critical thinking skills when collecting and analyzing data. Additionally, they will see how technology can support students’ collection, organization, and presentation of data. The course also offers practical tips for implementing projects that ask students to think critically with data.
