History

• Jan Mitchell, NHS Grampian worked with SQA to develop the framework for the award and wrote the Unit Specification

• NHS Grampian met with NESCOL in February 2015 to collaborate on delivery

NESCOL• Small team worked with NHS Grampian to develop the award• Includes Honorary NHS contracts as Nurses and PEFs which 

has allowed team access to NHS Grampian online materials and also observed in theatre environments to understand area better.

• Identified Essential Academic Skills to be part of the delivery (FN6A 35)

• NESCOL secured Internal Approval • SQA Approval achieved last week with course now fully 

development.  Assessments currently being prior verified.• Current Cohort have sat first Assessment

NESCOL• Delivering Course over 1 year• 1 Day per week in college• 2 Blocks• Intra‐operative and Essential Academic Skills – Block 1• Pre and post operative Care and Understanding Personal and 

Professional Development – Block 2• Assessments developed – E‐assessments, Case Studies linked 

to work role, Clinical Competencies Book• 450 hours of logged time (supervised by ‘Mentor’) in the Intra 

operative unit; 450 in the Pre and post operative unit.• Course delivered in Aberdeen with candidates travelling by 

train from Elgin, and Video Conference from Orkney
