LOMBOK

SUCH GREAT HEIGHTSBelongs to the region of East

Lombok, Mount Rinjani is a challenging treat for all hikers, promising a rewarding view on the top for all who manage to overcome it. The mountain’s name is synonym with ‘high’ and taken from the name of Goddess Anjani from Lombok old folklore.

There are two starting points

to climb Rinjani, one from the Senaru village (Northern route), and the other is Sembalun village (Eastern route). Both points offer different panoramic terrain along the journey. If you start from Senaru, you will be welcomed by lush tropical rain forest with massive-sized trees, while Sembalun village track is a vast, green and

yellow-colored savannah. Usually, the locals will take (and suggest you to take) the Sembalun route. It is easier, more scenic, and offers you the biggest chance to reach the peak in one day. In between your trip you will come across a crater area called Plawangan where you can camp, rest, catch some fishes and spend a night

before resuming your journey to reach the mountain’s peak. The sunset view in this crater is gorgeous and captivating. At the peak you will be greeted with cool, refreshing breeze and uninterrupted 360 degree view of Lombok and beyond, such as Gili island, Sumbawa island, even the shadow of Mount Agung.

Singaraja used to be the capital city of Bali. The city’s Penimbangan Harbor welcomed many curious foreigners who wished to experience the paradise island first hand, but in the development, the capital city is moved to Denpasar. However Singaraja is remained to be a wonderful place where all the remnants of ancient and vintage Balinese era are intact and well preserved.

There are several interesting regions worth visiting around Singaraja for a pleasant escape, such as Munduk, a small mountain village in

which you can enjoy fresh air with astonishing view of green forest, crystal clear lake and colorful flowers. Munduk also has some restaurant with idyllic location for you to enjoy your meal with scenic

panorama. Then ascending from the hillside, you can visit the famous GitGit Waterfall. Park your vehicle in the designated spot and follow the 800 meter track until you reach the magnificent 50 meter-heights waterfall

surrounded by lush forest. At the noon after the waterfall, why not taking a dip in Banjar Hot Spring? A beautiful traditional pool filled with natural hot spring water, which is believed to heal diseases and fatigue.

If you would like to learn about the historical aspect of Singaraja, you could visit Gedong Kirtya museum at rural Singaraja that contains a massive collection of ‘Lontar’, scroll manuscripts written on palm leaves. Some of the ‘Lontar’ preserved in this museum can be traced back to 500 years ago. Singaraja also has many ‘Pura’ (Balinese temples), such as Pura Beji, an ancient temple tucked on the side of paddy field. On the main yard of the temple, you can see a statue of two foreigners holding musical instruments. This proves how Balinese, particularly Singaraja people, have long been assimilated with international culture and embrace it with open hands.

After a day filled with activities, it is time to experience what has made Bali famous since centuries ago; the beach. You must go to the famous Lovina beach (the one with cute dolphin statue) and enjoy the serene sunset scenery. For dinner, you should try some of Singaraja’s signature dish such as Siobak (Rice and sautéed pork) or fresh grilled seafood.

Another dish should be tasted while in HARRISSIMO Pizza is definitely the Balinese Chicken. The thin crust pizza is topped with chicken betutu, shallot, ginger torch, garlic, chili, pineapple,

With the concept of ‘dining-bar’, Rayjin

might be small in size, but that doesn’t foreshadow its fact as one of the best Teppanyaki restaurants on the island. The restaurant sure knows how to serve delicate grilled menu in precise style, composition and timing.

Rayjin only consists a handful of seats, so they often welcome their guest by reservation; however, the restaurant team puts all their efforts, discipline and energy to deliver their best service and taste to cater your hungers. All meals are cooked right in front of you, to guarantee the freshness. There are several recommended menu at Rayjin, such as meltique steak, which is a scrumptious 200gr steak served medium rare with three type of sauce; ponzu,

yakiniku and basil pesto. If you crave for seafood, try their Tasmanian salmon teriyaki that is grilled to perfection and served with shiitake mushroom, or the prawn and broccoli, which combine fresh tiger prawn, broccoli and mayo-ponzu sauce. Pork lover should order the pork belly shogayaki, an all time favorite dish made from juicy pork belly, onion and ginger sauce.

Jamu Wellness Sanur Bali offers a variety of herbal

Kemiri nut scrub is their signature treatment using kemiri (candlenut), which is freshly blended with a bit of lemongrass juice to balance the oil content. Kemiri is great to cleanse and nourish the skin as it works as massage oil and body scrub. After that, I had sirih (betel leaf) bath and ended with applying body lotion.

Next was going to the other room for the microdermabrasion. Before proceeding to the treatment itself, my face was given

gentle massage using vitamin E oil to relax and improve blood circulation. This light cosmetic procedure is benefited to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and recommended for skin rejuvenation, acne marks and scars, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as oily skin with enlarged pores.

MONASTERY OF A DISTANT PAST

This site was built at a crevasse edge formed by the intersection of 2 rills called Pangkung

River and with Petanu River. The Balinese believe that Goa Gajah cave emits a radiance of mystical energy called 'rwabineda' because it was intentionally constructed between the two rivers. Its existence could be traced back to the 1365 AD, where its name has been mentioned in Negara Kertagama ‘lontar’ (papyrus script) made by Mpu Prapanca.

The name of the site was originally called ‘Lwa Gajah’, or Elephant River. The name is derived from the intersection of two rivers that create massive spiritual energies (thus the name ‘Elephant’). The cave used to be utilized as monastery by Buddhist Monk and Shivite Priest. This conservatism also shows how well the unification of Buddhism and Shiva believers went during that era. The cave interior is filled with niches of the hermitage and contains a sanctum area and couple of Buddha statues. The stone around the cave’s entrance is carved resembling a human face with the entrance being its mouth.

“Lies on the West side of the island, Goa Gajah is a remnant of sanctuary once used as a contemplative hermitage.“

big ceremonies happening to experience the best of the temple’s tranquility. The temple offers sensational views overlooking the sea and down over the temple, or you can descend the stairs leading to the shrine directly in front of the beach area. The main temple is located in low cliff bank and blessed by the breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean. Local Hindu people are known to stop and pay a visit to this temple to wish for blessing and safety during their trip.

INTO THE BLUE: DIVING 101 FOR BEGINNERS

Ocean is a blissful realm pulsating with life and mysteries. It takes more than just desire to explore the world beneath the wave. In this edition we would love to

share some diving tips for beginners suggested by the pro-diver, essentially neces-sary to notes before you dip into the magnificent blue. Check them out!

THE MASKUnlike snorkeling or surface dwelling, mask is top priority when it comes to diving, so always adjust the mask to the shape of your face before you go. Even the tini-est gap can be fatal, as it allows water to enter and fill your mask with dangerous

pressure during your underwater trip. It is also suggested to apply anti-fogging cream or toothpaste on the inner side of the mask to increase your visibility.

TRUST YOUR BUDDIESDiving is a challenging and rather dangerous activity so it is always suggested

to do it with packs. Appoint someone with the highest level of experience in your team to guide you throughout the activity, and always trust them, especially the

local guide or someone who understand the area well.

DON’T PANICA simple yet essential things to NOT do, panic will only make you waste your pre-cious oxygen. Maintain your concentration and don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of

your surroundings.
